This is a non-union, full time contract position from July to August and a part-time, non-union, contract position from September to December 2024
DUTIES
- Supports the Project Coordinator to recruit youth into the program.
- Delivers group activities both online and in person for youth, such as youth leadership and civic engagement activities, intergenerational activities, homework clubs, cultural celebrations, recreational activities and orientation/information sessions.
- Provides information and referral to educational institutions, recreational programs, youth specific services, community centres, volunteer programs and employment opportunities.
- Liaises with community agencies in the areas where Newcomer youth are living to bridge services to the needs of this population.
- Provides individual counseling based on the needs of the youth (life skills, crisis intervention, etc.)
- Provides on-going feedback to Project Coordinator to recommend service delivery changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Social Service Worker Diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
- Minimum One (1) year of experience providing community development services including settlement, recreational and case management to youth at risk.
- Demonstrated knowledge of specific issues facing immigrants and refugee youth.
- Strong ability to develop rapport and relate with youth facing different and difficult life situations.
- Knowledge of youth leadership programming, recreational programs and overall youth-related services.
- Excellent communication, organization and coordination skills.
- Demonstrated experience delivering virtual services using Zoom, Teams and other social media applications.
- Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within the last 6 months.
- Access to a car would be an asset.
- Must be fully vaccinated or exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of the exemption.
