Position Summary:

This Client Mentor shares with clients their lived experience of recovery and resilience from a life in addictions and criminal justice involvement, inspires hope and actively demonstrates a life in recovery. It is the responsibility of this role to be a community support to the clients by navigating recovery meetings, working through the recovery steps and offering ongoing crisis and relapse prevention support.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver services using a client-centered and strength-based approach consistent with agency policy and philosophy
  • Facilitate a sponsor/sponsee relationship with the client to support the client through the 12 steps of recovery
  • Support the client in developing social skills, life skills, awareness of commitments, accountability to drug court obligations, and relapse prevention skills.
  • Provide support for clients with crisis management, advocacy, daily scheduling management, and overall program expectations
  • Role model a daily recovery lifestyle as an example to clients
  • Maintain a positive relationship with community agencies
  • Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Contribute to the overall agency mission, vision, and values

 

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Diploma in human services or a related field, a degree in social work is preferred
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of active engagement in a recovery lifestyle
  • Lived experience with recovery from drug addiction and criminal involvement
  • Drug Court graduate
  • Experience working with diverse populations and ability to provide culturally relevant services
  • Understanding of addictions, mental health, and the criminal justice system
  • Effective interpersonal and engagement skills
  • Registration with a professional organization is considered an asset
  • Demonstrates professionalism within all aspects of employment

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Record Check will be required
  • This position has an immediate start date.
  • The hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Some evening and weekend shift would be expected.
  • The office is in the Transition Place Building at 10010-105 Street, Edmonton. Parking is not included with the position.
  • The hours that you are required to work may vary from time to time. Further, there may be times where, given the needs of the organization, you may be required to work fewer shifts and Edmonton John Howard Society reserves the right to reduce the number of hours or the shifts you are provided from time to time.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position is $20.40 - $25.50 per hour plus 4% holiday pay.
