Hours of work: Full-time, 35 hrs/week

OVERVIEW:
The Program Assistant role is a temporary, full-time position with Megaphone in Vancouver. The position will work directly with staff and vendors—people who are homeless and low income, who sell Megaphone Magazine, Hope and Shadows calendar and the Voices of the Street anthology on the street to earn income.
You will work with the Executive Director and Megaphone staff to support vendors to sell Megaphone products, provide direct vendor services, and fulfil administrative, communication, and inter-organizational tasks. This role is based out of Megaphone’s Downtown Eastside Vancouver office.
VENDOR SERVICES:
- Support regular vendor events, including weekly/monthly meetings, and workshops
- Offer coaching and sales support to vendors
- Identify and develop new sales locations for vendors through outreach to local stores and potential community partners
- Support outreach efforts to recruit new vendors (postering, flyering, events)
- Perform vendor communication duties (e.g., phone calls, social media posts)
COORDINATION SUPPORT:
- Provide support for coordination of Hope in Shadows calendar project, including participant communications and consent, interviews and writing
- Provide support for community judging process (jury, community vote, online vote)
- Support the editing of calendar content
ORGANIZATION SUPPORT:
- Operate sales desk (where vendors purchase product) and keep accurate records
- Complete cashouts daily
- Attend regular staff meetings, and voice vendor needs arising from operating the sales desk
- Support organization events and fundraisers as needed
- Support marketing and fundraising initiatives as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants are required to meet the following criteria to be eligible, as per Canada Summer Jobs:
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment
- Have a valid SIN number that does not start with “9”. International students are not eligible.
- Compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental approach to working with people experiencing multiple barriers
- Motivated self-starter and creative problem-solver
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a calm manner
- Strong competency with computers, including Google Drive (Docs, Sheets) and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
