The Position
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accounting Manager oversees fiscal support functions for the Alberta region of our CARF-accredited social services agency.
Located in a newly-renovated regional office in downtown Edmonton, with free parking!

In Your Role You Will
• Financial analysis - work with program managers to understand their financial statements
and provide financial insights about spending trends, cost-savings initiatives, and margin opportunities.
• Train/assist internal program management in financial reporting and budget preparation that comply with agency policies and procedures.
• Focus on daily and month-end accounting to determine results, including P&L activity (admin fees, expenditures, reclasses), balance sheet activity (deferrals, accruals) in compliance with GAAP.
• Understand and calculate the risks involved in programs' financial activities.
• Hire, train, evaluate, mentor and manage a team of 2 staff in the accounting department (AB) that develop financial and valuation models, materials, and recommendations.
• Ensure monthly contract revenue from 70+ programs are in-line with negotiated contract agreements.
• Plan, organize, and execute financial tasks and projects of the organization.
• Liaise with social services program funders (provincial/federal government agencies) regarding accounts payable
• Produce financial, budget and other special reports, proposals and analyses for management to include in monthly financial statements and/or funds distribution reports.
• Attend monthly management meetings to report updates, issues.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• 3+ years managing a small-mid sized accounting department.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Management, or related discipline
• OR or a Diploma in financial management
• OR an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) or ACTIVELY working towards completing a designation.
• Able to explain Financial statements and reports to managers without an accounting background.
• Strong analytical skills to drive the program performance and recommend solutions to program directors and managers.
• Proficient in analyzing budgetary expenditures for compliance.
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
• Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP, Concur, and other financial planning software.
