Shelter Nova Scotia supports people in times of crisis and transition through residential, trustee and outreach programs. To this end, Shelter Nova Scotia operates seven facilities in the HRM – six over-night plus our drop-in Hub Resource Centre, providing a night of rest to 106 people and providing support to hundreds more, 365 days a year. Shelter Nova Scotia offers far more than shelter; utilizing client and housing support workers in tandem with our colleagues working in mental health and addiction services, we support 1,500 people annually.
Shelter Nova Scotia is seeking the next Chief Operating Officer to oversee the day-to-day operation of the organization.

As the ideal candidate, you have a high degree of humility, transparency, and integrity with extensive leadership experience, and possess a commitment to excellence in all aspects of organizational and operational management. You demonstrate a strong understanding of the complexities associated with working within a non-profit organization with multiple funders. Your strong business acumen, strategic approach, and results orientation enable you to adeptly translate the Board and Chief Executive Officer's vision into both long- and short-term actionable tasks and plans. Highly compassionate with a passion for social justice and social profit, you are comfortable and can flourish while supporting vulnerable and marginalized populations.
You have a proven strength for operational excellence. You are a champion in thoughtfully implementing organizational transformation and change and can diagnose complex problems and foresee potential issues while approaching challenges with respect and consideration. You possess a strong understanding and credibility in the areas of human resources, finance, and facilities management. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as your high degree of emotional intelligence, allow you to effortlessly engage and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals.
