Are you passionate about making a difference in communities across Canada? Samaritan’s Purse Canada (SPC) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Recovery Program Manager to lead and represent our Recovery Programming as an integral part of the Canadian Ministry Projects (CMP) Team.

Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.  Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

As the Recovery Program Manager, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of long-term disaster recovery and community development programs. You will further the charitable mission of SPC by providing strategic leadership in disaster recovery, building and sustaining strong relationships with churches, local and provincial governments, communities, and other agencies. Additionally, you will administer and oversee national programs to support and uplift those in need across Canada. As an integral member of the CMP, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in daily prayer ministry.

The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time one-year contract position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short term/long term disability and 15 days of vacation per year to start.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership for the overall direction of SPC’s domestic recovery strategy, integrating principles of adaptive management and ongoing learning
  • Communicates SPC’s recovery program and strategy to governments, NGOs, churches, and other stakeholders to create new opportunities for SPC to serve
  • Maintains accountability for the overall program budget, individual award budgets, and resource management
  • Seeks out opportunities for new funding streams to establish or continue recovery programming in appropriate parts of Canada
  • Develops and implements targeted recovery programs in communities affected by disasters
  • Establishes and maintains a roster of on-call recovery specialists ready to deploy into communities post-disaster, and oversees training development for deployed staff and on-call response network members
  • Communicates and ministers to local church leaders, equipping and empowering them to deliver aid in their communities
  • Works with local churches to ensure follow-up with beneficiaries and program continuation after SPC has completed the project
  • Handles conflict resolution as necessary with staff, volunteer teams, beneficiaries, churches, or other agencies

Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants must be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith
  • A degree in Disaster and Emergency Management or a related field is an asset; equivalent combinations of education and experience can be considered
  • 2-3 years of supervisory or management experience, or 2-3 years of related experience and/or training in community development
  • Experience in community development and humanitarian assistance (domestic or international) is essential
  • Experience in teaching or training is an asset
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to build rapport with officials and government representatives
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work
  • Superior customer service skills, strong attention to detail, and basic maintenance skills
