Department:  Affordable Housing- Hillside Gardens

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week) (July 3, 2024- August 28, 2024)

Number of positions: 2

 

Job Summary:

 

The Day Camp Leader works alongside with the Tenant Services Coordinator and takes the lead in the planning, development, and delivery of summer day camps for school-aged tenants at a social housing complex. 

 

Reports To: Tenant Services Coordinator 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements summer day camp activities 
  • Follows S.U.C.C.E.S.S. protocols and relevant Public Health Orders to ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff 
  • Promotes the summer camp program to tenants and handles related inquiries and registration 
  • Communicates expectations and follows-up with parents and program participants 
  • Ensures the physical and emotional well-being of children during activities 
  • Acts as a role-model and acknowledges appropriate behavior 
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers to assist with implementation of daily activities 
  • Assists with related on-site summer activities 
  • Assists in budget control, report writing, program evaluation and community liaison 

 

Education, Training and Experience:

 

  • Elementary Education 
  • Standard First Aid Certification 
  • Experience working with youth groups is an asset 
  • Experience recruiting and working with youth volunteers is an asset 
  • Knowledge of activity planning 
  • Knowledge of youth safety 

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Additional Languages are considered an asset 
  • Excellent leadership skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills  
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office or web-based applications 
  • Ability to handle and manage private and confidential information 
  • Ability to take initiative 
  • Ability to work with youth and volunteers 
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team

  • Criminal Record Check Required (Vulnerable Sector) 
  • This position is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and applicants must satisfy the following requirements: 
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment 
  • Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (international students are not eligible; recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents) 
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
