Ideal for a student seeking part-time, flexible work at a living wage, LINC Classroom Assistant will report to, and receive mentoring from, the LINC Instructors and LINC Coordinator. 

 

The LINC Classroom Assistant will support the instructors in class. Duties may include, but are not limited to, photocopying, recording attendance, tracking assessments, assisting with breakout groups, working with individuals, and assisting the teacher with whatever is needed. This position is critical in supporting and enhancing the function of the classroom, and the student experience.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a sensitivity for intercultural and inclusive communities;
  • excellence in verbal, written and interpersonal communications;
  • post-secondary education (language-related preferred);
  • demonstrated success in relationship building;
  • the ability to stay focussed (with a positive attitude) in a hectic and noisy office environment;
  • the ability to work flexible hours including in evenings and weekends;
  • the ability to receive coaching from the instructor they are working with;
  • outstanding organizational and computer skills (Microsoft office suite);
  • the ability to share in the vision and mission of CIS, and engage others in support of CIS.

 

This position is part-time and involves working in-person 20 hours per week in mornings, evenings, and over the summer, on weekends in the morning. Classes are 2.5 hours each.

 

This position begins in July and runs until March 31 2025, at which point the employment contract will be renewed if funding for the position is renewed. We are seeking an assistant to work with us on an ongoing basis throughout the year, though hours change according to client needs. It might also be possible to hire more than one person if multiple applicants are seeking fewer hours than posted.

 

The hourly wage is $25.20 per hour.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Assist LINC Instructors, Students and LINC Coordinator – Estimated time 95%

  • Provide direct language support and guidance to students, where determined appropriate by the LINC Instructors, including 1-1 and in small groups.
  • Photocopy, file, prepare classroom materials, take attendance and generally assist the LINC Instructor.
  • Track PBLA assessments utilizing an excel spreadsheet.
  • Assist in the integration and cross promotions of Settlement and Integration, Languages, and other CIS programs.

 

Other Responsibilities – Estimated 5%

  • Participate in occasional staff meetings (general and LINC) & activities and attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
