Full Time Registered Nurse

Reporting to: Director of Care

               

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our dedicated residential hospice team. The Residential Hospice Palliative team provide the highest standard of compassionate palliative, end-of-life care to our residential clients and their families. Shifts are 12 hours – 8am to 8pm and 8pm to 8am.

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) leads the shift team working to full scope of practice according to the College of Nursing Standards and works collaboratively with all team members: the palliative physician, interdisciplinary team, volunteers, clients, and their families. The successful candidate will be able to manage the demands of the specialty of palliative and end-of-life care and be flexible to engage in all required tasks associated with ‘total care’ of the person. Supervision of students will be required at times as well as mentorship to all staff.

RNs with specialty training in pain and symptom management are preferred and an understanding of the Model to Guide Hospice Palliative Care is required. Ongoing education is very important to us, and we support and encourage staff to participate in this.

Education and experience

  • RN requires proof of current registration and status with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Team player with exceptional problem-solving abilities and flexible – need to be able to deescalate family and visitors as needed.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work compassionately with residents and their families
  • Preceptor experience preferred
  • Knowledge and commitment to the not-for-profit sector, including supporting fundraising
  • Minimum of three (3) years practice preferred in dedicated palliative and end-of-life care
  • Experience working with volunteers preferable.
  • Preferred CAPCE certificate and Leap Training
