Position Summary

The casual Front Desk Clerk (FDC) will report to the Assisted Living Manager and manage the reception area while providing a warm and friendly environment for all residents, guests, and employees. The casual FDC will be responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks while supporting the front desk. The successful candidate will be willing to cross train in the assisted living facility’s other roles, such as the Visitor Health Ambassador and the Dining Room Server. Due to the residents supported in the assisted living facility, the successful candidate must have their preliminary vaccines for COVID-19.

The FDC position is compensated at $23.54 per hour and the Dining Room Server and Visitor Health Ambassador are $23.11 per hour. FDC shifts are available 7 days per week from 4pm-12am, and 12am-8am ($1.00 per hour premium for 12 am – 8 am shift). The shifts you will be called for depend on the needs of the facility and your availability.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome all incoming guests and residents and address inquiries
  • Answer the telephone, transfer calls, book visits and vendor appointments, and take messages for all departments 
  • Respond to staff calling in sick and scheduling replacement personnel
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation assigned or required in the course of duties including documenting in the communication log and incident reports
  • Ensure the safety of the building and residents by completing all safety checks, documenting in writing all incidents, responding to resident medical pendant alerts, administer First Aid to residents and staff when needed, and lead all building emergencies including evacuating the building.
  • Operate cash machine
  • Support the delivery of recreation evening activities as required, which can include set up for evening activities
  • Complete cleaning duties including but not limited to washing windows, vacuum furniture & floors, dusting, and bathrooms
  • Additional tasks that may be assigned

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in and with Indigenous communities would be an asset
  • Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to display tact, respect, and diplomacy
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures
  • Knowledge to respond effectively and calmly in crisis situations
  • Capable of being socially sensitive to Indigenous issues and concerns
  • Good conflict resolution skills and the ability to demonstrate patience and tolerance
  • Knowledge of an Assisted Living environment would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently, yet contribute and co-operate in a team environment
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to manoeuvre between applications with ease for Front Desk
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting/bending/repetitive tasks

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Courses or training in customer service, office systems, and procedures
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a high-volume office environment, preferably in a congregate/assisted living setting
  • Clear Criminal Record Check 
  • Completed OFA-L1 certificate, costs covered by M’akola
  • Completed WHMIS certificate, costs covered by M’akola
  • Completed Food Safe certificate, costs covered by M’akola
  • Be vaccinated against COVID-19 or willing to get vaccinated before start date
