Stopping the Violence Counsellor

Cythera Transition House Society is currently looking for a part-time STV Counsellor for 28 hours/ week. This position provides counselling to women who have been victims of various forms of abuse.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assesses the safety of the clients and their children and support clients in reducing safety risks.
  • Interview clients, prepare case histories, assess problems, and outline services provided by the organization.
  • Provides individual and group counselling to clients from a feminist and trauma-based perspective using techniques such as therapeutic group counselling and self-skill workshops.
  • Provides information on and referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
  • Facilitates the creation of group counselling in shelters and in the community.
  • Participates in or initiates case conferences with other professionals as required.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence. Conducts presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social service field plus two years’ experience working with women who have experienced abuse; Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Specialized training in violence in the family from a recognized program.

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Clear Criminal Record Check

Acceptable Drivers’ Abstract

Current First Aid Certificate

Union membership

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and compassionately with abused women.

Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively.

Ability to work independently; work effectively in a team setting.

 

Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 28 hours per week

Expected Start Date: ASAP

Wage/Salary: starting at $38.68/hour

Grid Level: 14-P
