Scheduled Hours: 4 on/ 4 off rotation, Evenings 8 hr shift: 11 pm-7am

The Program
New 24-hour program within Edmonton (securing housing likely in Northwest or Central Edmonton)
Disability Support Workers will work individually with two women, who have FASD, mild intellectual disability, developmental childhood trauma, and past history of addiction. Both individuals live fairly independently (cooking, cleaning for themselves, etc.) but require harm reduction supports to support them with social, emotional and a drug-free lifestyle.

The Position
The Disability Support Worker assists persons-served with behavior supports leading up to bedtime, during overnight hours and in the morning.
Some behaviours including verbal aggression/threats, and those related to drug seeking/addiction and complex mental health needs may occur on a daily basis and therefore, only those with previous experienced with de-escalation techniques and providing similar supports will be contacted for an interview.

In Your Role You Will
• Ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care, and if needed, provide immediate support in crisis situations.
• Assist with basic household chores (light cleaning, laundry, meal prep), completing log notes, other reports and training, etc.
• Teach, support and model personal care, life skills, anger management skills and social/occupational skills
• Assist with design, implementing and evaluating ISPs, program specific policies & procedures.
• Plan, drive (in your own vehicle) and participate in individuals' vocational, recreational activities, appointments, etc.
• Encourage opportunities for social interaction within communities.
• Liaise, on behalf of the person in service, with the community, family members, guardians and employers.
• Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes
• Observe/document physical, developmental and psychological needs of individuals in service.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Previous experience providing specialized supports for: FASD, drug and alcohol addictions, intergenerational trauma, mental health, suicide and other behavioural issues.
• A positive role model; calm, confident, patient, self motivated and motivates others
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, who can set & maintain healthy boundaries.
• Valid class 5 driver license, suitable driving abstract and reliable vehicle
• High School or GED Diploma
ALSO helpful, but will train if needed:
• First Aid/CPR Certification
• Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training
• Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
