Society of Sharing (SOS) is a community-focused, values-based, and collaborative organization that strives for excellence and accountability. SOS is an incorporated, charitable, non-profit organization that provides free services to isolated, lonely and frail seniors. All our programs are designed to reduce social isolation, promote social connection, and improve the well-being of housebound clients.

 

We are searching for a part-time Activity Coordinator who will be responsible for the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of culturally appropriate activities and services that maintain and promote the physical, emotional and cognitive well-being of the senior participants. This position reports to the Executive Director, and will be based in Toronto, Ontario.

Responsibilities

 

Program Facilitation

 

  • Organize and facilitate weekly social gatherings and program activities (socialization groups, Christmas gift wrapping, volunteer events, birthday parities, etc.).
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate activity plans tailored to participant needs, ensuring safety and seamless operation.
  • Develop monthly activity calendars with participant input and collaborate on special events and outings.
  • Oversee setup and cleanup for events, with volunteers providing support.
  • Coordinate monthly activities, birthday parties, and grocery shopping for snacks, with volunteer assistance.
  • Monitor participant attendance, interactions, and safety, addressing conflicts or crises as they arise.
  • Manage program resources, including supplies and expenditures, and conduct evaluations for continuous improvement.
  • Supervise and provide feedback to volunteers, ensuring adequate support and satisfaction.
  • Resolve day-to-day concerns from volunteers and participants, and promote the program within the community

 

Other

 

  • Provide accurate client and volunteer information reports, client/volunteer statistics and a subsequent monthly report for the executive director.
  • Actively promote and participate in fundraising activities, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • College Diploma in Recreation or Activation or equivalent in social services, geriatrics, gerontology, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with seniors and/or persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in program planning and development specifically tailored for seniors.
  • Excellent skills in implementing and evaluating activities with cultural appropriateness and sensitivity to participants' needs.
  • Experience in leading volunteer teams toward common goals within a programmatic context.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate groups while maintaining a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
  • Knowledge of social services community resources.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills; additional languages considered an asset.
  • Access to a vehicle with a valid driver's license.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

Location: 25 Linden Street, Toronto, ON M4Y 1V5

Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Hours: 27 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime is required
