The expected starting base salary for this position is $91,202 - $95,761 annually, depending on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience. Once hired, you will progress through a wider salary range over time as you continue to develop job knowledge, skills and competencies for the role.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Director, Research and Evaluation, the Research Specialist (RS) assists with furthering research initiatives across the College. Under the direction of the Director, the RS prepares research proposals, implements research activities in collaboration with the team and/or external collaborators, and creates and maintains documentation. The RS will participate in identifying methodological approaches, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of quantitative and qualitative analyses, report writing, publishing, and presenting results to various audiences.

​Key responsibilities include:

  1. Under the direction of the Director, R&E, the RS is responsible for the implementation of research activities.
  2. Prepares interview guides and engages with internal and external groups to conduct key informant interviews and focus groups.
  3. Conducts literature reviews as required to provide comprehensive review on a topic.
  4. Designs and administers surveys to internal and external groups.
  5. Identifies data sources and oversees data collection processes ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to research standards.
  6. Conducts quantitative or qualitative data analyses using relevant tools and techniques and summarizes results and the interpretation of key findings.
  7. Prepares reports and presents results to internal and external audiences.
  8. Interprets findings and develops evidence-informed recommendations.
  9. Prepares grant and ethics applications.

Your education & skills â€‹

  • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, social sciences, or related field with an emphasis on qualitative or quantitative research methodology or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Education in nursing considered an asset.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a group setting or one-on-one and to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Ability to conduct research related activities including literature reviews, data analysis, interpretation of findings, manuscript preparation and presentations.
  • Experience planning and conducting health research studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approaches.
  • Must have direct experience conducting focus groups and key informant interviews.
  • Experience writing and submitting manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with demonstrated experience working collaboratively with individuals at all levels in a professional environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, organization and prioritization skills required.
  • Demonstrated self-starter and critical thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to offer recommendations, direction, and solutions for challenges.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative analysis software including NVivo and/or R.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, nursing and/or regulatory environment is an asset.
  • Previous experience with organizational performance measurement or evaluation is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility as they apply to research approaches and health care is an asset.
