Cameray Child and Family Services is a community-based agency committed to the strengthening of individuals and families through a spectrum of services including counselling, education, outreach and advocacy. Cameray Child and Family Services has provided specialized counselling services to children, youth, and families in Burnaby and New Westminster since 1972. All of our services are offered free of charge.

 

Victim Support Worker – Emergency Sexual Assault Response

We are looking for a part time temporary 15 hours per week (with the possibility of additional hours) starting September 3, 2024, to May 3, 2025 at $30.75/hour.

 

Duties Include
•Provide trauma-informed and culturally safe victim support services to individuals who have experienced sexual assault
•Liaise with RCMP, Crown Council, Community Agencies
•Provide practical and emotional support as needed – this support may include:
  o facilitating access to medical care and forensic exams
  o accompaniment to appointments
  o safety planning
  o  assistance with completion of CJS forms and documents
  o providing guidance and information about the criminal justice system
  o advocating for victim rights in the court process
  o servicing as a liaison and support with the criminal justice system
  o court preparation and accompaniment
  o information and referral
  o coordination of community responses
•Case management and coordination
•Other duties as required

 

Skills and Abilities
•Ability to work well with people and provide support and advocacy
•Knowledge and understanding of the impact of sexual assault
•Clear understanding of and commitment to confidentiality
•Knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to cultural diversity
•Understanding of philosophies of victim services
•Understanding of the Criminal Justice System
•Understanding of Restorative Justice and alternative measures
•Strong communication skills
•Ability to work well within the Agency as well as work co-operatively with community service providers
•Ability to work independently
•Ability to be non-judgemental and compassionate


Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in related social service discipline
•Ability to work both independently and as a member of a professional team
•Driver’s License
