We are on the lookout for a Food Coordinator to join our team!

Ways You Will Contribute:  

Supervise and develop Oasis Café employees: 

  • Supervise and support employees’ kitchen work. 
  • Support the development of employees’ skills and knowledge. 
  • Update the Program Manager with insight/input regarding employee needs, progress, and goals. 
 

Lead meal preparation, service, and clean-up: 

  • Oversee the kitchen and plating area during Oasis Café by serving as “back of house” lead. 
  • Lead the planning, organizing, and executing of a meal plan in collaboration with the Program Manager, employees, and volunteers. 
  • Execute and organize meal preparation duties among volunteers and employees. 
  • Observe, train, and correct kitchen crew to ensure adherence to proper food handling and sanitation procedures. 
  • Lead volunteers and employees in kitchen cleaning and handling of food surplus and waste. 
  • Manage risks, emergencies, and critical incidents as they arise. 
 

Maintain Oasis Café inventory and supplies:  

  • Procure and organize the inventory of Oasis Café food and supplies by maintaining freezers, refrigerators, and shelving. 
  • Receive and organize Oasis Café food donations (as authorized by the Program Manager). 
  • Notify the Program Manager of any equipment needs. 
 

Support Tenth Church Shelter program with Food: 

  • Lead in the planning, organizing, and executing logistics of food production, as approved by the Program Manager. 
  • Lead volunteer teams and work with other Tenth staff to produce Shelter food. 
  • Procure and organize the inventory of Shelter food and supplies by maintaining freezers, refrigerators, and shelving. 
  • Collaborate with Shelter staff to replenish food and supplies. 
 

Assist in the completion of Oasis Café Hospitality work: 

  • Lead in the planning, organizing, and executing logistics of meal plans for Oasis Café Hospitality contract work with employees (Leadership Team meetings, offsite and/or special events etc.), as assigned by the Program Manager.

What You Bring:  
  • Post-secondary education in community development, social service work, or other relevant human services field of study is required; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (minimum 2 years) may be considered. 
  • Completion of Occupational First Aid (Level 1), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and FoodSafe (Level 1) preferred within one year of employment. 
  • Knowledge of substance use care, mental health, food insecurity, homelessness, poverty, and housing in the City of Vancouver. 
  • Basic home cooking skills.   Knowledge and experience with the food service industry practices are an asset but not essential. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment, quick to problem solve and de-escalate conflicts as they arise, and an ability to maintain harmonious relationships while leading with emotional maturity.  
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work within a team setting, with an emphasis on leadership, self-initiative, patience, empathy, maturity, and tact, especially with teammates with varied social, economic, ethnic, and spiritual backgrounds.  
  • Strong sense of self and ability to observe boundaries, engage in appropriate emotional regulation, refrain from dual relationships with employees and guests, maintain confidentiality, and engage in reasonable self-care strategies designed to reduce stress by balancing work/life responsibilities. 
  • Strong ability to work under minimal supervision and act with a high degree of integrity, independent judgement, and acting on a variety of matters as required. 
  • Ability to work and empathize with people who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, substance use, or maybe living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. 
  • Ability to provide Christian spiritual support to staff and program participants as needed.
  • Mature individual who possesses a deep and vibrant faith in Christ with a desire to foster spiritual growth in others and experience mutual spiritual transformation. 
  • Compassionate, humble, and teachable spirit with the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback. Friendly, approachable, patient, kind, reliable, and punctual. 
  • Must obtain Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search. 
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. 
  • Must have a valid BC driver’s license. 
  • Committed to a faith community through gatherings and regular participation. 
  • Agree with Statement of Faith of Tenth Church. 
  • Dedication to the overall goals, health, and vision of Oasis Café and Tenth Church.  
 
This a part-time position where you will work 25 hours per week. 
 
Salary is commensurate with experience; the salary range is $28,600 - $31,200 prorated per annum.
