Role Overview

This role is responsible for the management, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of identified and new mid-level and major donors, and support of the major gifts team’s fundraising activities.  As a member of the High-End Giving team, this role will participate in the development of strategies to achieve department-wide goals.

Location: Flexible work arrangement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule. Accepting candidate applications across Canada, as this role can be 100% remote, with candidates expected to be available for donor meetings. 

This role includes, but not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level and major gift individual and foundation donors, and prospects to attain specific annual goals as part of the overall major gift and planned gift targets. 
  • Secure and build upon the prospect pool, and pipeline and maintain existing and new relationships through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship calls.
  • Write high-quality grant proposals, applications, and supporting documents.
  • Make weekly mid-level thank you calls and planned giving interest calls.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify, cultivate, and solicit new grants and donors. Focus on diverse communities and networks, engaging them with Diabetes Canada.
  • Collaborate and coordinate efforts with the development team and across business units within Diabetes Canada.
  • Participate in, and remain accountable to, setting goals and strategies to meet revenue objectives. Manage portfolio’s revenue tracking of gifts, expecting funds and gift designations.
  • Schedule and manage portfolio’s stewardship activities to optimize accountability and ensure donor engagement and retention
  • Maintain donor and prospect records and tracking system on the database.
  • Contribute towards the development and implementation of donor cultivation and stewardship events.
  • Build organizational excellence, a collaborative working environment, and contribute towards a positive culture.
  • Adhere to professionalism and fundraising best practices as demonstrated by industry standards and donor-centered methodology.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • 3-5 years of major, mid-level and/or planned giving fundraising
  • University degree or diploma in fundraising, communications, or related discipline
  • Candidates with CFRE designation is preferred
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills and the ability to create compelling and relevant material.
  • Ability to develop, enhance and deliver impactful presentations in a result-driven style to various audiences and partnerships.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in the non-profit sector. 
  • Solid understanding of brand reputation policies, practices, and principles and experience working cross-functionally specifically with communications and public relations. 
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects/deadlines effectively, fostering teamwork amongst colleagues.
  • Exceptional eye for detail and great problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with donors, members, the public, employees, volunteers, sponsors, and other organizations.
  • Sound technical abilities, including Microsoft Office software applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook), desktop publishing software, and new media and graphic design.
  • Experience with data management and CRM databases.
  • Professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to travel on occasion.
