Position Overview
As the Full time Cook you will be responsible for all aspects of meal preparation and maintaining a high standard of health, safety and cleanliness required by the Society, while working in a congregate living emergency shelter and community youth center.
You will be comfortable working independently and in a team environment between two program areas: Emergency Shelter and the Community Youth Centre.
You must possess a high level of professionalism, as the position involves interactions with clients and youth, who are accessing supports in each of these areas. Your friendly, energetic personality will contribute to a positive work environment and demonstrated ability to be flexible and multi-task oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
· Create a nutritional weekly menu plan and grocery shopping based on an operational budget to prepare weekday and weekend meals for larger groups of individuals;
· Maintains and completes a high standard of health, cleanliness, and safety by monitoring physical cleanliness and potential safety concerns on an ongoing basis. (i.e., maintain a clean and organized pantry and fridge, launder linens, and general maintenance as required)
· Excellent time-management between cooking and cleaning duties at each area.
· Demonstrated history of strong work ethic, pride, and independent work.
Qualifications and Experience:
· Experience in Food Safety and facility maintenance are an asset, with a minimum of one year experience in food preparation to large groups.
· Valid Safe Food Handling and WHMIS Certificate
· Criminal/vulnerable Record Check and Intervention Check are required
· A clean valid driver’s license with a minimum of three years driving and insurance history are necessary.
· A minimum grade 12 diploma
