About Canadian Centre for Housing Rights
The Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) is Canada's leading registered charitable organization working to advance the right to housing across the country to ensure everyone has an adequate, secure, and affordable place to call home. CCHR advances the right to housing by building and nurturing community-based networks, serving renters to help them stay housed, building the capacity of renters, service and housing providers through training, and advancing housing solutions through research and policy advocacy domestically and internationally. CCHR champions the transformative power of education and empowerment in activating housing rights and we are dedicated to centring the experiences and voices of impacted communities.
CCHR has recently undergone a period of significant transformation and expansion, growing nearly tenfold across the past five years. CCHR’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan will launch in October 2024, focusing on consolidating recent growth through operational enhancements, and building on recent accomplishments in research, advocacy, capacity building and legal services for renters. Key priorities include developing signature program streams, enhancing cross-functional collaboration within the organization, right sizing operational capacity to foster long term resilience, and leaning into CCHR’s national identity through a partnership-based approach.
Working at CCHR
CCHR is a collaborative and cross-functional team of about 25 motivated professionals working across Canada, linked by our commitment to advancing the right to housing. Following recent growth and expansion, we will begin a new Strategic Plan in the fall of 2024 which will focus on streamlining and consolidating key programs and initiatives across policy, law reform, renter services, capacity building, and research and exploring innovative fund development initiatives to support long term sustainability.
CCHR’s head office is located at the Centre for Social Innovation (Spadina location), an exciting shared workspace that houses 250 non-profits and social innovators across multiple locations in downtown Toronto. It is accessible by transit and offers substantial opportunities to network with like-minded people and participate in a mission-driven, innovative community through various events. CCHR’s team works remotely, but our office has several workstations which are available to staff who would like to work from the office on a part-time or occasional basis or who are visiting Toronto from other regions across the country.
