Resettlement and Integration Department

 

The Resettlement and Integration Department is committed to assisting newcomers and refugees in successfully integrating into their new communities. Our department provides a wide range of essential services:

  • Orientation Services: Delivering workshops and one-on-one appointments to help clients adapt to their new environment, navigate public services, and understand local cultural norms.
  • Academic Aid Services: Offering support in educational pursuits, including guidance on school enrollments, scholarship applications, and tutoring services.
  • Employment Services: Assisting clients with job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and understanding workplace culture and legal rights.
  • Financial Services: Providing financial literacy workshops, budgeting assistance, and one-on-one counseling to promote financial stability and a yearly Tax Clinic.

Our department plays a crucial role in helping newcomers and refugees build successful and independent lives in their new communities.

 

The Position's focus is within Orientation Services

Orientation Services provide comprehensive support to refugees, focusing on their integration into Canadian society. Through workshops and one-on-one appointments, refugees receive guidance on navigating life in Canada, including accessing language classes, obtaining social insurance numbers, applying for social assistance, obtaining a driver’s license and many more. The program also fosters community integration by connecting refugees with local resources and organizing cultural events. Additionally, it focuses on developing alternative pathways through partnerships, conducting research and evaluation to improve services, and advocating for refugee needs. Administrative tasks ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development:
    • Design and develop new orientation programs tailored to the specific needs of individuals or groups.
    • Continuously assess and update existing programs to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to create resources and materials for orientation sessions.
  2. Workshop Facilitation:
    • Plan and conduct orientation workshops to guide newcomers through essential information, such as institutional policies, cultural norms, and available resources.
    • Engage participants through interactive sessions, providing practical advice and answering questions.
  3. One-on-One Counseling:
    • Offer personalized counseling sessions to address individual concerns and provide tailored guidance.
    • Assist individuals in setting and achieving personal, academic, or professional goals during their transition period.
  4. Partnership Development:
    • Identify and establish partnerships with external organizations, such as community groups, educational institutions, and employers, to support program objectives.
    • Maintain and nurture existing partnerships, ensuring ongoing collaboration and resource sharing.
  5. Resource Coordination:
    • Curate and distribute relevant information and resources, such as guides, checklists, and contact directories, to assist newcomers.
    • Ensure that all materials are accessible, up-to-date, and culturally sensitive.
  6. Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Collect feedback from participants to evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
    • Prepare reports and make recommendations for program improvements based on data analysis.
  7. Advocacy and Support:
    • Advocate for the needs and rights of newcomers within the institution or community.
    • Provide support and referrals to additional services, such as legal aid, housing, or mental health services, as needed.
  8. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of all counseling sessions, workshops, and program outcomes.
    • Coordinate with other departments or agencies to ensure smooth operation and integration of orientation programs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Counseling, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience in program development, counseling, or related roles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in FRENCH, ENGLISH, Third language highly recommended.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skillset:

  • Experience working with newcomers, refugees, or individuals in transition.
  • Knowledge of Google suite, MS Office.
  • Initiative Taker
  • Willingness to learn
  • Driver's license an asset

 

Compensation:

  • 20$/Hr
