Job Overview:

Building Maintenance and Custodial support is a full-time (35 hrs a week) position that provides efficient and effective custodial and maintenance support to the general operations of the building by making sure the building is a clean, safe and welcoming workplace. This role will also serve as a main contact for the external building contractors.

 

Job Conditions:

The position will be working out of the Terra Main Office located at 10320–146 Street and Brentwood House 13744 115 Ave with flexible hours between 8:30am–5:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Custodial:

  • Clean and maintain building sites:
    • floors, entrances, hallways, stairwells, common areas, kitchens, washrooms, and offices, following a daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule, including but not limited to:
      • Empty garbage and recycling bins
      • Vacuum and mop floors, spot clean carpets.
      • Dust
      • Clean glass doors and windows
      • Clean and disinfect washrooms.
      • Wipe down cabinetry in kitchens, interior and exterior of microwaves, exterior of refrigerators.
    • Make sure the janitorial supplies are always on hand by placing timely purchase orders.

 

Lawn Care and Snow Removal:

  • Lawncare: lawn mowing, weed removal, rake leaves, bag debris.
  • Snow removal: shovel walkways, spread ice melt as needed.
  • Maintain related equipment.

 

Maintenance:

  • Schedule and manage repairs and maintenance, minor works, and other work requests, tracking to completion.
  • Maintains building maintenance logbook.
  • Oversee third-party contractor maintenance and repair work associated with service agreements. Maintains relationships with vendors and outside contractors.
  • Proactively inspect grounds, facilities and equipment to determine if repairs or preventative maintenance are required.
  • Periodically transporting items to the landfill and/or ECO station

 

Clothes Closet and Reception:

  • Support volunteers and donors in receiving and placing donated items in Clothes Closet.
  • Provide hands-on support to reception in making sure the inventories are counted and stored where they belong.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Administration:

  • Complete annual performance review reflecting on previous year’s activities and setting goals for upcoming year.
  • Adhere to agency established timelines and process, submission of time sheets, expense reports, mileage, data entry etc.

 

Qualifications:


Knowledge and Abilities:
 

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in custodial and general building maintenance.
  • Handyman experience - minor maintenance and repair
  • Experience working in office or commercial building.
  • Ability to communicate using Outlook emails.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS would be an asset
  • Ability to lift more than 25 pounds.

  

Other requirements: 

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Clear driver’s abstract
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that is dated within 90 days of the start date.

Compensation: The salary for the position is in between $21.00 – $27.00 per hour.

 

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas and New Years.

 

Terra Centre also offers free onsite or street parking depending on office location. We are also a casual business attire organization.
