At Second Harvest, we are more than just Canada’s largest food rescue organization—we are a catalyst for innovation, committed to reducing food waste and ensuring food security across the country.

Your background in education and training has equipped you to lead with impact, inspiring communities, and helping people build the skills and knowledge they need to tackle food loss and waste. You are interested in joining a mission-driven organization where you can create lasting change.

Enter Second Harvest…

Think we're just about redirecting food surplus? Think bigger.

Here's why Second Harvest is your next career leap:

  • Pioneers in food rescue, we are a renowned leader in perishable food redistribution across Canada.
  • With a mission fueled by a no-waste, no-hunger ethos, we're not just changing the game—we're rewriting the rules.
  • Our strategic approach aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making every day a step towards global change.

The Role:

As the Manager, Training and Education, you will lead the national expansion of our Training and Education Program, building a robust program focused on food literacy, food safety and food loss and waste reduction. The program will engage diverse audiences and particularly youth. Your leadership will help deliver certification programs, educational workshops, and collaborative projects that drive the growth and effectiveness of our training efforts across Canada.

Your Impact:

  • Spearhead the development and expansion of Second Harvest’s Training and Education Program, ensuring it aligns with our mission.
  • Lead the creation of educational content and certification programs for various audiences, including youth, school groups, and non-profit organizations.
  • Deliver high-impact training sessions on food safety, literacy and waste prevention, both in-person and virtually.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Innovation to expand the Safe Food Handler Certification program and create new certification opportunities.
  • Build partnerships, generate revenue through training initiatives, and foster collaborative efforts across departments.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Training and Education grants, ensuring all deliverables are met and program goals are achieved.
  • Track and analyze program data to ensure continuous improvement and innovation within the Training and Education Program.
  • Oversee the program’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with organizational priorities.

Who You Are:

  • Visionary Educator: You have experience in delivering educational programs and training, ideally within the food sector. Experience in curriculum development and working with Canadian school boards is a strong asset.
  • Dynamic Communicator: Your communication skills are exceptional, allowing you to connect with diverse audiences and convey important information clearly.
  • Collaborative Leader: You excel in motivating and leading teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Analytical Thinker: You leverage data and insights to drive decision-making and continuously enhance the program’s impact.
  • Detail-Oriented Organizer: You thrive in managing complex projects and ensuring that every detail contributes to success.

An interest in food safety, food literacy, and waste prevention would be considered an asset. A valid G-class license and access to a vehicle are preferred, but we will consider accommodations to support transportation needs.

About the Perks:

  • A competitive salary paired with a robust benefits package.
  • Professional growth in a role that makes a real difference.
  • Flexible work hours and a commitment to work-life balance.
