About the Position
The Youth Worker supports youth in collaboration with the Program Coordinator. The Indigenous Youth Employment Program supports Indigenous youth between the ages of 16-29 to overcome barriers and acquire skills and training to achieve sustainable employment. The position works out of Drive Youth Employment Services/Sunrise Welcome Place, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House satellites, with remote work and outreach work in the community. This is a term position until March 31, 2025 with possibility for extension.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support Program Coordinator to recruit and select program participants
• Facilitate workshops
• Provide support to youth in the program: during workshops, in 1:1 meetings online or in-person
• Provide community support to participants: advocating, mediating, coaching, and attending case meetings where appropriate
• Connect participants to relevant community supports including housing, education, and health care
• Provide 1:1 case management for participants, developing individualized employment education plan
• Assess for bio-psychosocial needs and create support plans, providing crisis interventions where necessary
• Support participants in navigating systems/connecting with resources
• Research potential resources and programs which may be applicable to participants, expanding the breadth of IYEP services and supports
• Communicate and collaborate regularly with Program Coordinator regarding progress developments, program goals and systems, and participant updates
• Purchase program materials and supplies within approved budget
• Other duties as required


Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in child and youth work, recreation, social work, or similar discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 2 years of experience working with youth ages 15-30
• Lived experience or Indigenous education an asset
• Operates from wholistic perspective, grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and working, flexibility, and with understanding that participants have a vast spectrum of experience and relationship with their Indigeneity
• Advocate for participants from Indigenized perspective when they are in workplace
• Awareness of colonial systems; able to navigate and assist participants in navigating them with an anti-oppressive approach
• Proven ability to liaise and build relationships with service providers and community members
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Self-directed task management and initiative
• Mentorship and communication skills
• Experience working with ages 16-29 an asset
• Experience in facilitating workshops an asset

Hours: Approximately 26 hours/week, 4 days
Starting Wage: $22.90-25.38/hour ANHBC Band P4
