Solo With Supports Group Care Support Staff 

Solo With Supports Transition Homes are a group care program that aims to support young people learn the skills to live full and complete lives in our community. The young people living at Solo With Supports Homes have status with the Alberta government through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). Our program prepares young people to either return to living with their families or to transition to adult living situations and adult services (i.e. Persons with Developmental Disabilities).

 

The Chimo SWS Program is currently seeking Full Time Group Care Support Staff. Schedule: A combination of weekday and weekend shifts that average approximately 44 hours per week over a three-week rotational period. Dayshifts are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, evening shifts are 4:30 pm to 11 pm and overnight sleep shifts are 11 pm to 9 am.

The above positions require a diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or a related field.

 

Requirements of the position includes but is not limited to:

  • day-to-day operations of the home, implementation of the residents’ in-home programming
  • daily documentation/reporting
  • teamwork and advocacy.

Physical Requirements

Successful candidates will be physically able to:

  • Climb stairs repeatedly during the day
  • Help with household tasks, including regular housework (washing floors, cleaning washrooms, etc.), meal prep, cooking, driving youth to appointments
  • Help with yard work (mowing lawns, raking leaves, shoveling snow)
  • You must be able and prepared to physically interact with youth in inside and outside recreation activities

Successful candidates will:

  • demonstrate care and compassion for young people
  • possess a strong understanding of working with young people and adults who live with challenges in a variety of areas, including developmental disabilities, mental health, attachment, addictions and barriers to accessing community resources.
  • strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • proficiency with computers and writing reports/logs.

A current (within 6 months) police or RCMP criminal record check and Alberta Child Intervention Record Check are required upon hire. Ability to be added to Chimo’s fleet insurance will also be a requirement of the position, which includes 3 years’ driving history with no at-fault claims and $2 million liability insurance and no more than 2 current convictions on your abstract.
