About the Role

 The VP, Philanthropy brings value to Food Banks Canada and the food bank network across the country by strategically leading and overseeing the development of a robust individual giving strategy. This role will lead a dynamic team focused on expanding the organization's revenue streams through annual, monthly, and major donor contributions and ensuring the team is equipped and motivated to meet the organization's fundraising goals. The VP, Philanthropy works cross-functionally to support the goals of the Philanthropy team, driving strategies to expand and diversify fundraising opportunities and revenue streams to achieve Food Banks Canada’s strategic goals.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Establish department goals and lead the team to achieve annual targets for individual giving
  • Develop and oversee the departmental expense budget with input from the Director of Philanthropy
  • Develop ambitious yet achievable revenue targets, tracking progress and adjusting strategies as necessary
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development and Partnerships Officer and other senior leaders to align philanthropic strategies with broader organizational goals and fundraising priorities
  • Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy to oversee the annual giving portfolio, utilizing data analysis and digital fundraising to maximize online revenue streams
  • Develop and implement a major gift program to secure significant financial commitments from high-net-worth individuals
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors, fostering long-term relationships and securing substantial gifts
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Will Need

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior fundraising role, with a proven track record of achieving revenue targets and leading successful fundraising programs, with a focus on annual and major giving
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in major gift fundraising, including personally securing significant financial commitments.
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, and motivating a professional, cross-functional team to achieve common goals and objectives
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Innovative and creative thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset and with proven success in building and nurturing strong and lasting strategic partnerships
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, major gift solicitation, donor cultivation, and ability to adapt to best practices
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budget management, and performance measurement, with the ability to leverage data and metrics to evaluate effectiveness, optimize resource allocation, and drive continuous improvement

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work to meet the demands of a senior management position.
  • This position is remote and must be located within 100km of the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Occasional travel within Canada may be required
