JOB SUMMARY
Position: Course Developer, C.A.R.E. Initiative
Purpose: The Course Developer will be responsible for designing and creating comprehensive training programs that prepare newcomers for sustainable employment in the care economy. This role involves collaborating with subject matter experts and key partners to develop engaging, accessible, and culturally responsive curriculum materials. The Course Developer will ensure that the modules align with the goals of the C.A.R.E. (Care economy, Advancement, Readiness, Empowerment) Initiative, equipping participants with the technical skills, soft skills, and industry knowledge necessary for success in social services roles.
Reports to: Program Manager, C.A.R.E. Initiative
Classification: Full-Time Contract; October 2024 – March 31, 2026; subject to extension based on funding.
Hours & location: 35 hours per week – work from AMSSA’s office located Metrotower II, Suite 2308, 4720 Kingsway, Burnaby, B.C. V5H 4N2 with the possibility of working from home 2 days a week
Salary: $35.86 - $38.02/ hour commensurate with experience - Eligible for benefits after three months

DUTIES
Curriculum Design and Development:
Develop and design comprehensive, culturally responsive training programs that align with the C.A.R.E. Initiative's goals.
Create modular content focused on both technical skills (e.g., caregiving techniques, healthcare protocols) and soft skills (e.g., communication, empathy, teamwork) needed for employment in the care economy.
Incorporate industry standards, best practices, and feedback from subject matter experts to ensure curriculum relevance and quality.
Collaborate with video producer in developing scripts and storyboards for educational video content.
Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs):
Work closely with SMEs, community leaders, and key partners to gather input on training requirements and ensure alignment with industry needs.
Regularly consult with stakeholders to refine the curriculum, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the care economy.
Learning and Instructional Design:
Utilize a variety of instructional design techniques, including multimedia tools, interactive content, and assessments to engage learners of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Tailor course materials to suit different learning styles, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants.
Content Delivery and Training Support:
Prepare comprehensive facilitator guides, participant materials, and assessments to accompany the training modules.
Provide support and training to facilitators and instructors, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver the content effectively.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of course content and delivery, using participant feedback, learning outcomes, and retention data.
Make improvements and updates to course materials as needed, ensuring continuous alignment with the initiative’s objectives.
Integration of Digital Learning Platforms:
Integrate e-learning tools and platforms where applicable to create blended or fully online learning experiences.
Ensure the seamless use of technology to enhance participant engagement and learning outcomes.
Understanding of best practices for incorporating video content into learning platforms.
Project and Deadline Management:
Manage the development process for multiple training modules, ensuring timely completion of course materials according to the project’s timeline.
Collaborate with the Program Manager to ensure alignment with the C.A.R.E. Initiative’s overall milestones and deliverables.
Alignment with Initiative Goals:
Ensure all training materials contribute to the C.A.R.E. Initiative’s mission of reducing reliance on social assistance by equipping newcomers with the skills for meaningful, sustainable employment in the care economy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in the settlement and integration sector.
University degree or equivalent or, 3-5 years of comparable program/project management experience.
Proven experience (3-5 years) in designing and developing training programs or courses, particularly in social services, healthcare, or the care economy.
Experience working with diverse, multicultural populations, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by newcomers and marginalized groups.
Proficiency in instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and best practices for developing accessible, engaging, and learner-centered content.
Familiarity with assessment and evaluation techniques to measure learning outcomes and the effectiveness of training programs.
Experience using e-learning platforms, learning management systems (LMS), and various digital tools for content creation and delivery.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Experience in managing course development timelines and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
Ability to innovate and adapt course materials based on feedback, learning outcomes, and evolving industry standards.
Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to design flexible, learner-focused content that accommodates different learning preferences.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office productivity tools, with aptitude to learn new software and systems.
Research skills and interviewing skills to collaborate with SMEs and organize existing data.
Knowledge of multimedia tools, video production, and interactive content development (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Captivate, or similar platforms) an asset.
