CASUAL CLUBHOUSE WORKER - Wetaskiwin, AB

 

MpowR provides supports to organizations and individuals in the Human Services Sector. As a non-profit charitable organization, we pride ourselves on delivering our services with integrity and a high standard of quality. We provide third party administrative support, accounting, IT, human resources, including casual staffing, professional development, clinical services and property maintenance to empower organizations to run at peak efficiency.

 

Program overview: Touchstone Place Clubhouse provides an environment where adults with mental health challenges can develop a support network and cultivate their potential based on needs and goals common to all people, and not restricted by their illnesses. We balance this with

understanding, acceptance, empathy and support.

 

Position overview: Staff must have the capability and flexibility to handle and juggle a broad array of duties and demands such as:

  • Working to engage members in all aspects of clubhouse operation;
  • Assisting members in pursuing employment opportunities or placement in recreational or educational programs;
  • Developing a comprehensive working knowledge of community resources pertinent to members’ needs and ensuring the members are aware of these resources and activities;
  • Role modelling for members and the facilitation of individual and group activities that focus on living independently in the community;
  • Identifying areas which interfere with effective service delivery and making suggestions which would enhance the quality of service.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, customs and beliefs, and an understanding of current and emerging issues of importance to Indigenous people and communities;
  • Good understanding of health issues affecting adults, such as FASD, drug and alcohol addictions, intergenerational trauma, mental health, suicide and other mental and behavioural issues;
  • Good understanding of cultural differences and how they impact treatment approaches;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with proven organizational and documentation skills;
  • Able to work well in a team environment with the ability to handle stressful situations in a non-confrontational, problem solving manner is required;
  • Strong client relationship skills (ability to get along with all personality types);
  • Demonstrates a friendly, vibrant, sociable and understanding personality.

Qualifications/Experience: High school graduate; post-secondary education in the social science field would be considered an asset (if education is in Social Work, must be registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers). Previous experience working with this type of clientele would be a definite asset. 

 

Other requirements: A current, clear Police Information Check (vulnerable sector included) and Child Intervention Record Check, both within the last 6 months. A valid AB driver’s license (minimum class 5) and current driver's abstract (no more than 8 demerits).

Salary: Salary Range is $19.81 - $22.97/hour, plus 4% vacation pay (salary commensurate with experience). We offer free courses and workshops in-house for all of our employees.
