The Strengthening Families Facilitator is an enterprising person who is not afraid to take initiative and think creatively! The priority for the facilitator will be to facilitate virtual parenting groups for adults in our Beyond Safe Visitation: Strengthening Families for the Future program to support overall well-being for families engaged in the family justice system and requiring supervised visitation. The Facilitator will also provide support in supervising strengths-based, trauma-informed parenting time sessions between non-custodial parents/caregivers and their children.

This position is a term contract working 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE) and is not eligible for hybrid work. The term contract will end on March 31, 2025.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Facilitate workshops covering topics such as changes to federal divorce law, effects of domestic violence on children, safety planning, child development, positive behavior guidance, communication, co-parenting and healthy relationships. 
  • Provide prompt and  constructive feedback to workshop participants
  • Support participants' growth by identifying strengths and areas for improvement in a professional and respectful manner
  • Moderate workshop discussions to ensure adherence to ground rules and maintain appropriate sharing
  • Manage supervised parenting time clients and conduct detailed session summaries
  • Offer referrals to YW and community services, assist with navigating the family justice system
  • Prepare workshop spaces and materials, maintain accurate participant records
  • Develop monthly work plans, enhance skills through coaching and supervision
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning as needed, consulting with supervisors
  • Ensure effective program administration and compliance with privacy requirements
  • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and development days regularly
  • Pursue continuous learning in domestic violence, parenting, child development and facilitation
  • Support YW Calgary's missions and assist in team participation in organizational events.
  • Foster positive relationships within the team and across YW Calgary

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services field, child and youth work or equivalent with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience. Diploma in the above, with 5 plus years of experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience in facilitating workshops for adults is a requirement as is the ability to do so independently.
  • Experience in direct service provision with families in crisis and/or transition and those who are engaged in the family justice system is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic violence, child development, parenting and the federal family justice system is an asset.
  • Strong skills in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs is an asset.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops for adults is a requirement as is the ability to do so independently.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches is important for this role.
  • Candidate should be a go-getter who is not afraid to take initiative and is open to working collaboratively and receiving feedback.
  • A strong knowledge of community resources is an asset.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and accountable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent technology skills with experience working with virtual platforms and MS Office suite.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI) required.
  • Brain Story Certification required within 3 months of commencing employment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with some flexibility, a must.
