The Role:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for meeting the HR needs of the departments in Second Harvest and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. The HRBP is not only a referent for HR best practices, but also maintains an effective level of knowledge about the departments’ functional areas and their needs. The HRBP delivers service, support, and guidance to management and employees that reflects the organization’s strategic objectives.

 

Your Impact:

  • Manage all aspects of the talent/performance management cycle (including training) for designated departments, implementing required steps for succession planning, recruitment, onboarding, compensation, benefits, pension, performance management, offboarding, etc.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with legal as needed/required and shares input and insight into policy development.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with client groups to understand their strategic needs and align work accordingly.
  • Work with HR Leadership/peers to develop and lead people strategies for diagnosing and enhancing organizational effectiveness, attraction, retention and employee satisfaction.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity.
  • Support departments in their annual HR planning, and facilitate contract terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers according to established budgets and processes.
  • Provide guidance and input on business unit restructurings and workforce planning.
  • Follow up on employee training needs and individual development goals, in collaboration with managers.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues by determining root causes, identifying themes and implementing action plans to close the gaps.
  • Act as a role model/mentor to less experienced colleagues on the HR team (e.g. orient, coach, and manage HR Assistants and summer students, or temporary Coordinators as needed).
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development).
  • Support and act to foster a diverse culture that promotes inclusion and belonging.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and contribute to identifying/analyzing departmental trends and metrics to ensure data integrity, and inclusively develop solutions, programs, and policies that contribute to strategic needs.
  • Work closely with Finance and designated departments on the annual workforce planning process.
  • Work with the HR team to ensure norms and procedures follow consistent standards and help track and analyze progress across departments.
  • Ensure administrative compliance and continue to develop the maturity of HR metrics and analytics.
  • Champion the level of service and support that aligns with our organizational culture.
  • Approaches day-to-day work with an operational excellence mindset and identifies and implements process improvements to maximize time, efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on client needs, evolving needs of the business and legislative requirements.

 

Who You Are:

  • HR Professional: You are a center of excellence for HR knowledge. You lead by example in representing the values and culture of Second Harvest. You have working knowledge of human resource disciplines including health and safety, compensation, employee relations, diversity, equity and inclusion, and performance management.
  • CHRP/CHRL designated, or able to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • People-Focused: You put people at the heart of your work and understand the power of effective connection and communication to cultivate strong, long-term relationships.
  • Collaborative: You have a positive, collaborative working style with the ability to manage competing interests with diplomacy. You bring a supportive end-user orientation to your interactions.

  • Service-oriented and capable of communicating with employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrate experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Able to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and related administrative practices.
  • Able to interpret and apply the appropriate sections of relevant laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven record of successfully implementing and improving HR processes.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Discreet with the ability to handle confidential information/sensitive situations with integrity.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, HR technologies, and possesses strong digital literacy.
