Foster Care Worker(S)
(Part-Time, Permanent)
About the position:
McMan’s North Foster Care Program is looking for Foster Care Workers for Fort McMurray. Foster Care Workers are responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring effective intervention programming for youth in Foster Care. You will assure the continuous physical, emotional and developmental well-being of the youth while they are in the Foster Care program, and act as an ongoing support and resource to the Foster Parents. Will also support the Bonnyville area homes, so some travel when required (once or twice a month).
Hours: Monday thru Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm; 22hours per week (may need to work later hours on occasion)
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta.
What you’ll do:
• Directly supervise via phone contacts and home visits; all activities of Foster Parents related to the service plan and the care of the youth
• Model and reinforce appropriate social and daily living skills within the program and community
• Promote community inclusion by ensuring youth are being supported with their interests, activities, and events in the community
• Effectively counsel youth and Foster Parents, utilizing strong observational and listening skills
• Provide the youth and Foster Parents with information and guidance on how to access and use various networks of support
• Complete case management and daily documentation
What you bring:
• Completion of a Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field
• Six (6) months of directly related experience in family/youth work, Foster Care experience preferred
• Equivalencies may be considered
• Police Information Check including the Vulnerable Persons Sector Check (from within the last 6 months)
• Children Services Intervention Record Check (from within the last 6 months)
• Emergency First Aid-Level C CPR + AED
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license, current drivers abstract, reliable vehicle and auto insurance are required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good mediation, counseling, teaching and program planning skills
• Demonstrated ability to successfully deal with stressful situations
• Knowledge of behavioural intervention skills
