COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, SECTOR ENGAGEMENT & PARTNERSHIPS:

($64,991.02 - $75,143.40 Annually)

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Sector Engagement and Partnerships, the Communications Specialist, Sector Engagement and Partnerships is responsible for providing support for communications and engagement activities as part of BC Housing’s Equity and Corporate Affairs Branch. He/She/They performs duties with primary emphasison supporting communications and engagement strategies with external stakeholders through housing sector communications, content development, speaking events, program administration, and other initiatives relating to Sector Engagement & Partnerships. The position provides support for presentation development, event management, and materials production to build awareness and relationships in support of BC Housing programs and services.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in communications or other relevantfields.
  • Considerable experience in communications in the areas of writing, coordinating logistics for events and activities, as well as planning, organizing, and overseeing the production of communications collateral with multiple partners and stakeholders.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the employer. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of communications, particularly within a publicsector environment
  • Sound knowledgeof communications planningand program/project implementation
  • Sound knowledge of community engagement best practices
  • Some knowledge of the processesrelating to social housing development
  • Sound knowledge of government or non-profit sector
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong verbal, writing,editing and presentation skills
  • Strong event management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with abilityto work independently and as a team player
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the abilityto work under tight deadlinesand pressures, with scrupulous attention to details
  • Ability to produce high quality speaking notes, presentations, and articles. 
  • Ability to write, prepare and post content to e-newsletters and websites for external audiences. 
  • Ability to use graphicsediting tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to produce communication collateral
  • Ability to analyze,problem-solve and mediatedifficult situations
  • Ability to utilizea high degree of judgement, discretion, and decision-making ability
  • Ability to work with a variety of agencies and contractors
  • Ability to handleconfidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to travel on Commission businessand work eveningsand weekends as required
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and must meet requirements to qualify for rental car insurance
  • Due to the nature of this role, a valid class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
