Summary

The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) is a growing professional association representing Ontario’s licensed naturopathic doctors and student members, advocating for naturopathic medicine as a key pillar of proactive primary healthcare. OAND seeks a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide leadership, oversee strategic plan implementation, and enhance the organization’s profile and impact in Ontario. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will manage financial performance, human resources, and government relations while serving as an ambassador for the profession. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare systems, a proven track record in leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and association management, as well as a commitment to advancing the role of naturopathic medicine within Ontario’s healthcare landscape.

 

Key Responsibilities

•        Guide overall strategic direction and operations of OAND and hold direct responsibility for developing and managing an accountability framework to evaluate progress.

•        Effectively engage with membership understanding member needs and concerns.

•        Ensure the association undertakes strategic planning on a regular basis, in consultation with the Board of Directors.

•        Carry out strategic planning objectives to ensure that strategic objectives are met.

•        Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategic plan; prepare progress reports on the strategic plan for presentation to each Board of Directors meeting.

•        Serve as a non-voting member of each committee of the board; attend committee meetings as needed.

•        Lead and support the development of organization-wide anti-oppression initiatives and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practices.

•        Develop/implement/oversee procedures, including operational reporting/metrics.

•        Prepare accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate budgetary results, variances, and performance trends.

•        Collaborate with provincial and national stakeholders and staff to develop the strategic and organizational goals, with a focus on maximizing the advancement of OAND’s mission and value to members.

•        Oversee/approve systems and technology operations and implementations related to successfully managing operations of OAND.

•        Strengthen a culture of accountability towards organizational goals to ensure a high level of team performance, while building a culture of openness, collaboration and belonging.

•        As a leader, build an inclusive, equitable, and performance-oriented culture, ensuring that team members have clearly defined roles and are connected to organizational values and strategic goals, feel accountable, are able to thrive, and organizational outcomes are met.

•        Identify and anticipate opportunities and challenges as they relate to financial matters; generate ideas, strategies, and solutions to drive financial impact.

•        Coordinate and lead annual budget proposal process, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with staff for presentation to the Board.

•        Identify and pursue partnership opportunities and communication opportunities.

•        Participate in advocacy efforts, proactively seeking to influence on government and participating as a member of task teams as opportunities arise.

•        Maintain fiscal integrity and a positive public image with respect to employment, compensation and benefits to employees, consultants and contract workers.

•        Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff by providing career coaching, growth, and personal development for staff.

•        Ensure that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.

•        Protect the programmatic integrity of the organization.

 

 

Who You Are

 

You are an innovative and dynamic leader with a passion for naturopathic medicine and/or advancing proactive healthcare. With a strong understanding of the healthcare system and experience driving the success of member-focused organizations, you excel at building collaborative relationships with government and stakeholders to achieve a shared vision. You bring a proven track record of senior leadership, strategic planning, and working effectively with Boards and Committees. Your exceptional interpersonal, communication, financial, and human resource management skills enable you to navigate complex challenges with creativity and resourcefulness. Ideally experienced in non-profits or associations, you are eager to bring your leadership and excitement for naturopathic medicine to help shape its future in Ontario.

 

While the search committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet the following qualifications in equal measure, they are preferred and will be used in the assessment of candidates for the position.

 

Education/Experience/Skills

•        Undergraduate degree; CAE designation preferred.

•        Senior leadership experience; experience in nonprofit or association management is preferred.

•        Experience supporting, and reporting to, a volunteer board of directors to be effective governors of an organization.

•        Deep understanding of policy governance boards and how they can best support a small non-profit association.

•        The confidence to work to full operational scope of the role while balancing a respectful relationship with board directors.

•        Insight and vision in identifying and anticipating trends in health care and how they affect the role of the OAND. Perceptive when identifying potential risks to and opportunities for the organization.

•        An anti-oppressive and inclusive approach to leadership combined with experience leading and championing EDI and anti-oppression work in diverse environments.

•        Able to manage and lead transitions and change as required.

•        Ability to plan and execute organization-wide activities (setting objectives, developing strategies, budgeting, and organizing the functions necessary to accomplish the activities).

•        Effective, adaptable, and visionary leader; able to understand and address the varying needs of OAND’s membership.

•        Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and cultivate positive, collaborative relationships.

•        Excellent and effective communication skills are required; must be a persuasive, passionate and tactful communicator.

•        Successful track record in building stakeholder partnerships. 

•        Decisive in making fair and timely decisions on internal and external matters.

•        Strong financial and business acumen.

•        Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people and build consensus.

•        Experience operationalizing strategic planning into tactical implementation.

•        Track record of leading and mentoring staff, with a deep commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse and equitable team.

•        Ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences in varying circumstances (e.g., Board, stakeholders, members, other associations and regulatory bodies, and government officials).

•        Ability to operate with flexibility, creativity, and accountability, while maintaining respect for others’ concerns.

•        Interest and awareness of naturopathic medicine and profession.
