We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Hospital Team.

Position Profile:
The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) plays a critical role in the care, rehabilitation, and medical treatment of injured, sick, or orphaned wild animals. This position supports the veterinary care of various wildlife species, assisting with diagnostics, treatments, and the overall health and recovery of patients admitted to our Wildlife Hospital. The RVT will work closely with our rehabilitation staff, volunteers, and other professionals to ensure the highest standards of animal care and welfare are achieved and maintained.
Position Type: Full-time / Part-time (20-40 hrs/week), permanent
Compensation: $27 - $30/hourly
Work Environment: Dynamic environment, which includes both indoor and outdoor settings.

Established in 1979, Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is a leader in the rehabilitation of wild animals and is committed to educating the public on how to coexist peacefully with wildlife. Located in Burnaby, BC, we are western Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre, with over 5,000 animal patients admitted each year.

Highlight of Key Responsibilities
Support in the daily delivery of treatment, rehabilitation, and care for our wildlife patients, including but not limited to:
Perform physical examinations, collect biological samples (blood, feces, etc.) and assist with diagnostic testing (lab work, etc.)
Administer medications, wound care and treatments.
Participate in the intake and triage of wildlife patients, assessing their condition upon arrival and determining appropriate care plans.
Assess patient progress, and provide appropriate care including fluid therapy, wound care, and nutritional support.
Safely handle and restrain wildlife of varying species, ensuring the safety of both the animal and personnel.
Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.
Contribute to identifying and conducting research, statistical analysis, and case studies that maintain and constantly improve animal care standards.
Take the lead in ensuring appropriate policies, protocols and standard operating procedures are developed, adhered to, and reviewed, in collaboration with leadership and consulting veterinarians.
Lead, train, supervise, and support in the development of volunteers.
Contribute to identifying, exploring, and applying initiatives and programs that carry out the organization’s mission
Key Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or certification from an accredited veterinary technician program
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician, preferably with exposure to wildlife species or a background in animal rehabilitation.
Experience handling birds and other species including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
Proficient in standard veterinary medical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring, and laboratory work.
Strong understanding of animal behavior and the ability to handle wildlife safely.
Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (no overnight shifts)
Knowledge of native wildlife in BC, particularly the Lower Mainland region an asset

Note:
All candidates must be willing to submit proof of current tetanus and COVID-19 vaccination and to obtain a criminal record check as per policy. Rabies vaccination is a requirement to work with bats.
