Sisters Dialogue is a grassroots organization founded to promote the wellbeing and empowerment of racialized Muslim women and girls in Edmonton. Through culturally sensitive and trauma-informed programming, the organization fosters healing, resilience, and community connections. To support the important work that we do, we want to enhance our organizational capacity.

We are seeking an experienced Special Projects Contractor to lead the planning and execution of this critical project. This independent contractor role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to systemic change and support Muslim women and girls in Edmonton.

Role Summary

The Special Projects Contractor will focus on planning and policy development for the Amanah project. Working closely with the Program Manager and Program Coordinators, the contractor will ensure the successful delivery of key project outcomes and lay the foundation for long-term organizational sustainability.

Key Deliverables:

  1. Strategic Plan Development
    Collaborate with partners to design a strategic framework aligning with Sisters Dialogue’s mission and vision.

  2. Board Governance Enhancement
    Coordinate governance training for board members to support ethical and effective program delivery.

  3. Financial Oversight and Sustainability
    Develop a financial oversight model and diversify funding sources for long-term organizational sustainability.

  4. Volunteer Management Strategy
    Create a comprehensive strategy to recruit, train, and retain volunteers.

  5. Evaluation Frameworks
    Establish systems to measure the impact of programs and governance practices, ensuring responsiveness and cultural sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project planning and deliverables, ensuring milestones are met.

  • Engage with partners, consultants, and other professionals as required to execute project activities.

  • Facilitate collaboration between Sisters Dialogue’s team and external partners.

  • Develop policies and frameworks to enhance organizational capacity.

  • Prepare reports documenting progress, outcomes, and lessons learned for funders and partners.

  • Conduct risk assessments and propose solutions to address challenges.

  • Organize an organizational retreat focused on team-building, strategic planning, and fostering a collaborative organizational culture.

  • Lead the preparation and submission of the organization’s application for registered charity status in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Proven project management experience, particularly in the non-profit sector.

  • Expertise in strategic planning, governance, and/or organizational capacity-building.

  • Strong understanding of anti-oppression, intersectionality, and trauma-informed practices.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines within a specified budget.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with challenges faced by Muslim women and girls.

  • Experience in board governance and funding diversification.
