Who we need

Reporting to the Director of Finance, we are hiring a Manager of Finance to join our team. As the new Manager of Finance you will play a critical role in managing and maintaining our financial accounting and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards. You will lead and mentor a team, and collaborate with managers  to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making. From preparing detailed reports for funders and government agencies to implementing effective financial controls, you will support the organization’s fiscal health and operational excellence.

This is a hybrid role based out of our office at Euclid working 3 days per week in office.

Who you are

You may currently be a Finance Lead or Manager in the public or private sector, seeking your next opportunity with an impactful organization. Either way, you understand the financial guidelines, reporting, and operations of a funded organization overseen by a Board of Directors.

As our new Manager of Finance, you will: 

• Oversee. You will manage the general ledger accounting, financial controls, and budgeting procedures required to operate effectively in a high-growth environment. You will oversee treasury functions, including cash management, reconciliations, maintaining banking relationships, and the corporate credit card program. 
• Manage a team. You will assign and review the work of a 3-person accounting team, motivating and guiding their work. You will provide training, performance management, and support to maximize departmental efficiency.
• Reporting. You will generate reports for funders, the Board, the Ministry and more, balancing timelines and detailed requirements. You will prepare monthly financial statements and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all information. You will manage the year-end audit, including preparing audited financial statements and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and remittances to all levels of government. 
• Implement controls. You will implement and manage internal controls related to financial policies, processes, and procedures. You will support the adoption of new systems or projects, ensuring they align with strategic finance and internal control objectives.
• Provide strategic analysis. You will drive improved decision-making and contribute input on the organization's financial health, strategic plans, and operations. You will advise on accounting matters such as financial systems, record-keeping, analysis, and reporting. You will oversee investments, provide guidance on managing surplus cash, and suggest strategies for optimizing cash flow and resource allocation.
• Collaborate. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the City of Toronto, provincial ministries, federal agencies, and the Board of Directors, ensuring effective communication and coordination. You will facilitate and attend meetings to share recommendations, convey critical information, and support staff needs. You will respond to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders and recommend solutions based on best practices.

What you bring to the team:

• The expertise. You have an accounting designation and extensive practical accounting, financial reporting, analysis and budgeting experience. Ideally, you have worked in non-profit environments and have exposure to Ministry funding and reporting guidelines. You have in-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP and CRA regulations for charitable organizations and foundations. 
• The knowledge. You have experience in both financial and fund accounting and reporting. You have an in-depth understanding of internal controls over financial reporting and transactions and experience implementing an internal control structure. 
• The ownership. You are ready and willing to take responsibility for all aspects of financial management. You thrive in both an autonomous and a collaborative mentoring role. You are curious to understand the organization’s business and financial workings and continuously expand your skill set.
• The people management. You have experience supervising accounting staff and fostering a positive team culture. You can guide and motivate a team, providing informal training on best practices in finance and budgeting protocols.
• The technical skills. You have expertise in Excel, reporting tools and accounting systems. You have a demonstrated ability to adapt quickly, maintain focus, and have a high degree of accuracy while working with complex information and financial data. You have strong analytical skills combined with creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
• The interpersonal skills. You have a customer service focus and a highly conscientious, energetic approach to your work. You have professional written and oral communication skills. You are a team player who can interact with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels of the organization. You have a demonstrated ability to work respectfully with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
