Position: Senior Financial Analyst

Location: Hybrid. The Partnership’s head office is in downtown Toronto. Candidates can work anywhere in Canada.

Status: Full Time, Permanent

Job Level: Level 6 salary range: $80,624 - $109,080 per year; Compensation offered will be based on an assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, while ensuring internal equity.

Division Overview

The Finance and Corporate Services Division leads all services to secure a sound financial, project management and information technology platform and ensure that the organization has the technical, operational, infrastructure, and change management capabilities necessary to achieve the maximum impact for its mandate and budget. The team works alongside all divisions in managing financial and project aspects of programs and initiatives that aim to deliver on the priorities of the 2019-2029 Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control.

Overview of the Role

The Senior Financial Analyst supports the Finance & Corporate Services Division in carrying out projects and initiatives to achieve organizational priorities. Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Partner Funding the incumbent coordinates and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to the Partnership’s overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer on all Canadians.

Core responsibilities and activities

Program specific responsibilities

  • Working with the Manager, provides support to all divisions and program areas to translate operational plans into financial plans, including developing the operating and capital budget portion of the annual and five-year corporate plan.
  • Supports the Manager and Director to lead processes supporting strategic allocation of program budgets and in-year budget changes and improve cross-organizational forecasting and analysis.
  • Provides support to program teams by preparing reports, meeting with and leading in-depth analysis on the financial performance for all divisions at the Partnership including partner-funded projects.
  • Assists with the development of measures and key performance indicators for corporate financial performance.
  • Participates in contract development, identifying the financial impact to the Partnership; reviews partner project proposals and provides advice on budgeting and spending as per policies and guidelines.
  • Acts as the key ERP system lead for matters relating to finance and planning and is responsible for uploading budgets into the ERP system ensuring the integrity and completeness of the financial data.
  • Assists with the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of financial policies and procedures that align with organizational priorities and adhere to professional standards.
  • Is accountable for analysis of information impacting the financial performance of the organization.
  • Identifies opportunities to continuously improve the current processes to ensure alignment with budget to actual and improves cross-organizational forecasting and analysis.
  • Anticipates the needs of program/project teams and prepares ad-hoc financial analyses related to designed programs, communicates issues and risks, and work cross-functionally as appropriate to resolve issues and/or escalate concerns to management if necessary.
  • Participates in regular project meetings to review status in relation to changes in scope, budget, and escalation of issues.
  • Assists the Manager with preparation of quarterly and year-end management and Board level financial reporting.
  • Prepares quarterly financial analysis of variances to assist project and program teams to understand financial gaps vs budget, forecast and prior year results.
  • Reviews, on at least a quarterly basis, any withheld or delayed contractual installment payments.
  • Reviews account details in conjunction with the project deliverables status to advise if payment requests to be signed off are accurate.
  • Assists the Controller in external audits, preparing necessary analysis and working papers; participate in partner audit program which may include site visits as needed.
  • Assists in building financial acuity and accountability throughout the organization (i.e. within project teams and program areas).

General accountabilities

  • Prepares and presents content and/or represents the Finance team at meetings, both internal and external, and other forums as directed.
  • Assists the Manager with other duties and ad hoc projects as required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • University Undergraduate Degree in finance, commerce, business administration, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector. Education or experience with First Nations, Inuit and Métis is an asset.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation or similar.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Bilingual in both English and French is an asset.
