Position Summary:

The Adult Support Worker delivers quality service by providing immediate and short-term assistance in meeting client basic needs and employment search support. Offering resources is done in an effort for clients to become independent and self-sufficient. This includes providing information, referrals, post-release planning and crisis support. The Adult Support Worker provides targeted interventions to foster client involvement with interventions that will address their needs, such as education, employment training, financial support, treatment, housing and pro social supports. Facilitate workshops on Employment, Financial Literacy and Anger Management to assist with client’s skills development. This position has reception duties related to the Community Safety & wellbeing division which includes greeting guests/clients and answering calls to support a wide variety of client services.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver ongoing services using a team, strength-based process that facilitates supports for the clients to create long term sustainable change, and a client centered, strengths-based approach consistent with the program philosophy.
  • Assist with front desk duties including answering phones and assisting clients of Community Services Programs.
  • Assess clients to determine needs and work with clients to develop professional relationships and behavior changes and to identity individuals’ goals.
  • Provide support and advocacy for clients and their supports as needed, including providing appropriate internal and external referrals.
  • Assist clients with completion of various applications, documents, and forms till support team is created.
  • Maintain and monitor all file documentation as per program/agency policy and maintain accurate and timely data collection, data entry and completion of any program assessments and surveys as per agency and program policy.
  • Assist with pre and post release support.
  • Lesson planning, preparation and ensure all teaching materials are current and relevant.
  • Deliver services in accordance with enCompass unit and agency policy and procedures as it would relate the health and safety guidelines and communicate pertinent information to other staff as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, community agencies and stakeholders as needed and required.
  • Participate in community committees and events and engage in enCompass agency activities, unit and staff meetings.
  • Participate in core agency training and additional ongoing training opportunities as directed and approved

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree or diploma in a related human services or social work field.
  • 2+ years relevant experience working with complex, high-risk populations using a client centered approach.
  • Experience working with offender populations using a client centered approach.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources.
  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Professionalism within all aspects of employment, strong leadership abilities and be able to contribute to a strong team environment.
  • Experience working with and understanding the unique challenges that Indigenous and multicultural individuals and families face, particularly those with significant criminal histories.

  • Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Reliability and Child Intervention Check; A criminal record will not disqualify you from employment with us; we evaluate each application individually
  • Maintaining a valid and current First Aid and CPR Certification

  • The role is located at the Transition Place Building in downtown Edmonton (10010 105 Street).
  • The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm.
