Reports to and is Responsible to: Sr. Manager, Projects & Community Impact, and Executive Director JMMF

Compensation: $21-23

Benefits: Full benefit package, RRSP contribution plan, wellness and vacation + 30 hour work week

Work Location: Morinville, Alberta. Jessie’s House (Emergency Shelter)  

Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday (3:30pm-10:00pm), occasional weekends as required.

 

OUR WHY 

On April 29, 2009, Jessica Martel, a young mother of three, was tragically murdered in her home by her intimate partner on the very day she attempted to leave the relationship. This critical moment is often the most dangerous for survivors, as they face an increased risk of physical violence or homicide, as exemplified by Jessica's case. Her story underscores the urgent need for our organization to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

To break the cycle of Domestic Violence through the actions of advocacy, community engagement, education, awareness, and safe housing through Jessie’s House – a 35 bed all gender emergency shelter and Eileen’s Place – a second stage housing program.

ROLE OBJECTIVES 

The Cleaning Operative/Housekeeper at Jessie's House plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for survivors of domestic violence. This position is essential in mitigating the risk of infections and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of clients, volunteers and staff. 

 

General Functions:: 

  • To promote and comply with the organization’s policies and procedures while ensuring health and safety of other people in the work environment when delivering cleaning services.
  • To provide and maintain quality service to the standards within the cleaning specifications governed by our provincial health and safety regulations.
  • Overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of cleaning equipment, stocking and supplying cleaning materials to designated facility areas.
  • Ongoing monitoring and tracking routine inspections and carrying out special cleaning tasks; i.e., move out cleans with second stage.
  • Commitment to self-care and professional development 
  • Compassion, resiliency and commitment to creating safety for clients and staff 

Mandatory Requirements 

  • CPR Level C and Standard First Aid certification 
  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check 
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Adherence to all JMMF policies and relevant legislation 
  • Ability to work in Morinville 
  • Ability to climb stairs, move furniture and life heavy objects as required 
  • Excellent personal and professional boundaries 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Hours of Work;(includes a 30-minute break per day, unpaid)

  • Shelter  - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - 3:30pm -10pm
  • Shelter – Tuesday and Thursday – 6:30pm – 10:00pm
  • Admin Building – Tuesday, Thursday - 6pm-9pm
  • Total Hours – 30 hrs/week
  • Physical requirements include moving furniture, bending, reaching, lifting objects, navigating stairs

Duties and Responsibilities:

Shelter; 

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms – toilets, baths, showers,  sinks
  • Restock disposables; soap, toilet paper, paper towel, etc.
  • Windex all mirrors and windows
  • Sanitize door handles, and hand rails in all stair wells
  • Sweep and mop all floors
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas
  • Dust and clean all furniture
  • Clean office spaces – dust all computers, clean all chairs and hard surfaces, disinfect phones.
  • Empty all waste bins throughout shelter, and replace liners
  • Tidy all communal areas
  • Perform other related work as assigned by the Manager of Shelter Operations and/or Executive Director

Admin Building;

  • Clean and sanitize high touch surfaces – door handles, light fixtures, desks, tables, phones
  • Dust office equipment
  • Vacuum carpeted areas
  • Empty all trash bins and replace liners
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen area – microwave and other appliances, sink
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom – Sink and toilet
  • Refill all soap dispensers and paper towel
  • Windex all windows and mirrors
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Perform other related work as assigned by the Manager of Shelter Operations and/or Executive Director

Move out cleans at Eileens Place;

  • Clean and sanitize all bathrooms – toilets, showers, sinks
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen – all appliances inside and out, counters, sink
  • Wash walls
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas
  • Dust all furniture and electronics
  • Windex all windows and mirrors
  • Clean and sanitize all doors, door handles, and hand railings in stair wells
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Perform other related work as assigned by the Manager of Shelter Operations, and/or Executive Director

 

SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Report and update plans with the Manager of Shelter Operations and/or Executive Director
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training
  • Participate in the ongoing development of quality daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning services;
  • Preparing an efficient cleaning routine
  • Using general cleaning equipment and chemicals properly
  • Ensuring that all health and safety regulations are adhered to
  • Reporting repairs and replacements that are required when encountered when cleaning

Education and Experience 

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma with related experience 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Janitorial experience is an asset 
  • Experience in residential program setting is an asset 
  • General knowledge with Microsoft Office 365  
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, with interruptions 
  • Ability to work independently  
  • Experience working with diverse and multi-cultural communities 
  • Understanding of trauma informed care 
  • Criminal Record Check 
  • Children’s Services Intervention Check 
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate 
  • Valid Driver’s License, current Driver’s Abstract 
  • Working with vulnerable population
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, team members, and community partners
