Job description

As a Youth Engagement Specialist/Youth Outreach Worker, you will assist in the management of the communications and outreach functions at Frontlines and SLYE (Student Leadership Youth Empowerment). Particularly, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing promotion materials to inform and educate the public, media, and other specified audiences about Frontlines’ programs, campaigns, and events for teens. You will also work with the Marketing Manager and the Fundraising team to design and execute outreach activities that further increase the outcomes and impact of the programs and services offered through Frontlines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with collaborating and contributing to  communication materials including newsletters, brochures, social  media posts, video content, etc

  • Develop and implement strategies to help promote   Frontlines’ programs and campaigns, particularly for Frontlines youth and young  adults

  • Maintain good relationships with relevant media contacts, donors, participants, employers, etc.

  • Conduct outreach to recruit participants for Frontlines’ programs; in-person outreach through attendance at community events, schools, job fairs, etc.

  • Assist youth who may be facing barriers by connecting them and their families to resources

  • Assist in the development and delivery of workshops and training programs as needed

  • Conduct case management including needs and risk assessment, identification and assessment of participant's need for job coaching

  • Assist with preparing  board and monthly  reports, presentations and press materials as required

  • Build relationships by providing positive role modelling to participants, staff, placement students, volunteers, etc.

  • Assist participants in developing appropriate work habits, behaviours and attitudes for the workplace

Network and Partnership Development

  •  Liaise with service providers working in various youth sectors.

  • Identify and partner with external service agencies and networks as needed.

  • Maintain a database of agencies, contacts, programs and services that are available to youth

  • Ensure effective communications at all levels within  Frontlines

  •  Share community and youth information with Frontlines and external stakeholders.

  • Actively support team development and relationship building.

  •  Implement standardized project evaluation tools and methods as needed

  • Increase Frontlines profile within the broader community.

  • Other job duties as assigned or requested.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience of excellence in community engagement and outreach

  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-ethnic, high-density, urban communities

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills

  • Familiarity with online platforms and design software: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WordPress, Canva

  • Excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills;

  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and access to a vehicle

  • Current First-Aid and CPR Certification is an asset;

  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of stakeholders (including but not limited to school administration and staff, community service providers, parents, residents, and youth);

  • Demonstrated experience implementing community development and community engagement

  • strategies;

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

  • Flexibility and willingness to alter work schedules and regular duties, including working evenings and weekends

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
