About the CFC
The Concordia Food Coalition (CFC) is a non-profit organization and a fee-levy group operating at Concordia University. The CFC brings together students, faculty, staff and community members to co-create campus-community food sovereignty. We collaborate to educate, innovate and incubate vibrant, sustainable, accessible and democratic local food systems. We aim to democratize the campus food system by moving away from corporate models while organizing towards student-led change.

About the Wage
Wage range: starting at $50 960 annual salary (after training & probation)
Work schedule: averages 35 hours per week, some evening & weekend work
Contract duration: April 15th 2025 - April 30th 2026, possibility to renew
The wage range and weekly time commitment outlined are based on a fixed labour budget. During the training and probationary period, the role offers an hourly wage from $26-$29 per hour, adjusted to your expertise and ability to ramp up quickly. We’ll work together to figure out the best way to allocate the budget, balancing wage, hours, and any paid training or development that ensures the transition to the salaried role is tailored to your needs. Once you’ve completed probation, the salary will be $50,960 per year, with opportunities for growth in both pay and impact, based on your success, initiative, and fundraising results.

Scope of this Position
The General Coordinator will ensure the growth, sustainability, and strategic direction of the organization, overseeing day-to-day operations and managing key functions such as finance, fundraising, HR, program oversight, and community relations. This role is essential in aligning the work of the CFC with its mission, vision, and values, while ensuring organizational efficiency and compliance. The General Coordinator will apply their expertise in project and program management to guide and support the leadership team, ensuring successful planning, execution, and decision-making across all initiatives. They will leverage digital and physical tools to manage hybrid teams, optimize workflows, and enhance collaboration across diverse projects.
Role Specific Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Lead the strategic planning process, setting the direction for the organization and aligning the mission and activities with CFC’s long-term goals.
Make high-level decisions to ensure that CFC’s programs are meeting their objectives, especially in sustainable food systems, food justice, and community engagement.
Ensure that the organization is moving toward its vision, while being adaptive to emerging challenges in the food systems sector.
Leverage external resources to complement operations where specific expertise is needed or when internal capacity is limited.
Operations & Program Management:
Oversee day-to-day operations, including internal functioning, human resources, financial management, and programmatic oversight.
Ensure smooth internal communication across teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Maintain organizational structure and ensure that staff roles are clearly defined and accountable.
Ensure the effective delivery of CFC’s key programs, including education, advocacy, and food system incubation.
Collaborate closely with the Coordinators and other staff to ensure the success and alignment of all ongoing programs with CFC’s mission.
Financial Management & Resource Development:
Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with financial regulations.
Lead fundraising efforts, including securing grants, donations, and sponsorships. Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a fundraising strategy.
Ensure that the organization’s resources are used effectively and that financial growth is aligned with CFC’s mission and operational needs.
HR Management:
Recruitment and Onboarding: Manage staff recruitment processes and ensure that CFC’s staffing needs are met in alignment with organizational growth.
Staff Development: Ensure that CFC staff receive the necessary training, resources, and support to excel in their roles.
Performance Management: Coordinate staff accountability mechanisms (eg. regular staff evaluations) and support professional development to ensure that all team members are achieving their goals.
Community Engagement & Advocacy:
Serve as the primary spokesperson for CFC, engaging with external stakeholders, partners, donors, and the general public.
Represent CFC in public policy advocacy related to food justice, sustainability, and food systems.
Foster and maintain strong relationships with community partners, funding agencies, local food groups, and other key stakeholders to amplify CFC’s impact.
Take initiative to develop new opportunities for the organization, by establishing new partnerships and/or new programs/projects.
Volunteer Coordination:
Work closely with the Board of Directors, ensuring that board members are actively engaged and aligned with CFC’s goals.
Support the recruitment and engagement of volunteers for various organizational needs.
General Responsibilities
Establishing and following through on work plans in collaboration with the team & Board
Maintaining timely & compassionate communications and collaborative work relationships with teammates and Board
Attending and participating in team and planning meetings (including organizational development, strategic or program planning)
Logging work and time
Preparing reports for monthly Board Meetings and Annual General Meetings
Preparing for and participating in self and peer evaluations (twice annually)
Maintaining organization and conformity in collaborative, virtual and physical file-sharing
Upholding the CFC Bylaws, policies, history, and general operations
Qualifications
Value Alignment: Dedication towards building sustainable, healthy, affordable, and non-corporate food systems.
Understanding of the CFC’s vision, mission, values.
Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead a nonprofit organization or program, with a strong understanding of food justice, community organizing, and nonprofit management.
Collaborative and consensus-driven decision making.
Strategic Thinker: Ability to set a clear strategic direction and make high-level decisions.
Ability to support and organize with multiple stakeholders
Proven track record for successful project coordination and systems thinking.
Fundraising & Financial Expertise: Experience with fundraising strategies, including grant writing and donor relations, and strong skills in financial management and budget oversight.
Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French, with experience in public speaking and community outreach.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships (to work with partners, stakeholders, and internal team).
Operational Management: Experience in overseeing day-to-day operations and managing cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals.
Strong multi-tasking and time-management abilities
Familiarity with Concordia University’s institutional processes and the campus milieu
Familiarity with web applications like Google Drive, Canva
