Job Summary:

The Employment Specialist (Job Developer) is responsible for providing direct client services to facilitate clients reaching their goal employment or Temporary Aligned Employment (TAE) by exploring job placement opportunities, promoting program participants to employers to generate job leads and secure paid employment, volunteering positions or on the job training, providing job coaching, and matching/connecting clients with potential employers. The incumbent provides both direct client service and outreach to prospective clients, as well as connecting with employers to seek job opportunities for project participants.

Your Role:

Archway’s Employment Specialist (Job Developer) with the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants Program (CPSI) contributes by:

  • Actively approaching employers and industry professionals for practicum and job placement opportunities through cold calling, email/phone, and on-site visits.
  • Advocating on behalf of CPSI clients seeking job placements, promoting clients’ skills and experience, and negotiating with prospective employers.
  • Conducting job searches and exploring job leads.
  • Providing one-on-one support to clients through job coaching, assisting them with job applications, responding to career and job-related inquiries, practicing interview skills, attending interviews, and inspiring and motivating clients through program participation and active job searches.
  • Networking with employers to build relationships and generate leads by visiting companies and employment locations, attending job fairs and community events, etc.
  • Establishing and maintaining a directory of employers who can provide mentoring, paid/unpaid job practicums, job shadowing, or paid employment positions (work placement opportunities).

This position is a great fit for someone who has great networking and relationship-building skills, is knowledgeable of the job market and employment trends, can take the initiative in building a directory of employers who can provide work placement opportunities and is able to provide guidance and advice on job search and interview skills.   

Our Offer

  • Wage:  $26.52 per hour.
  • A part-time position at 13 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. 
  • Position starting April 1, 2025.
  • Temporary until March 31, 2026 (with the possibility of an extension)

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Previous work experience as a Job Developer or Career Development Practitioner, in sales or marketing would be an asset.
  • Established relationships with local employers, industry professionals, and the community.

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive and goal oriented.
  • Well-developed written, verbal, and active listening skills; able to communicate respectfully and effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to keep up to date on labour market information and employment trends as change occurs.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian workplace cultural norms.
  • Knowledge of best practices in employment skills including resume and cover letter writing, networking, and interviewing.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
