Reporting to the Director of Quality Improvement & Risk Management, our selected candidate will implement strong health and safety programs, guide policy development to meet or exceed regulatory standards, and work closely with departments to support our commitment to excellence.
The successful incumbent will play an integral role in carrying out bi-annual site inspections, be actively involved in Joint Occupational Health and Safety committees and ensure our emergency preparedness is comprehensive. In addition, this position is also involved in reviewing and analyzing incident reports, preparing summaries of the same, and executing workplace investigations to drive continuous improvement and ensure employee well-being at work.
This position will also support the director in managing quality initiatives and COA accreditation preparation.
This is a 12-month temporary part-time position with the possibility for an extension.
This role demands an experienced quality and safety professional to combine strong analytical skills for audits and data analysis with excellent communication abilities to educate and train others. With a keen eye for detail and strong organizational skills, you'll manage multiple priorities seamlessly. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with QMS or SMS is preferred, empowering you to contribute effectively to our organization's commitment to safety and operational excellence.
This position requires a degree or diploma at the post-secondary level in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field or a blend of relevant education and practical experience in health and safety. Preferred qualifications include a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) certification, or Certified Emergency Planner (CEP). You will have 5+ years of relevant work experience, with a track record of occupational health and safety, plus desirable knowledge of various regulatory requirements, OSHA, and ISO standards, and be familiar with WorkSafe BC regulations and departmental policies.
Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies like the Model for Improvement, LEAN, and Six Sigma is advantageous, including skills in measurement, learning models, change management, and influencing strategies. The successful candidate will have a valid Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification or be willing to obtain one. Additionally, a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required for this position.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
