Breast Cancer Canada (BCC):

 

BCC is a registered, national non-profit charity dedicated to saving lives through breast cancer research by raising money to fund patient-focused research for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of breast cancer. Established in 1991 by Lawrence & Kay Greenaway, in memory of their daughter Pam who died of breast cancer at 38 years old, they positively transformed their deep loss into a mission to raise money to fund research to cure this devastating disease.

Key Position Objectives:

 

Support Breast Cancer Canada’s national volunteer programs, ensuring effective recruitment, engagement, and management of volunteers across the country.  With a highly organized, people-focused, and passionate approach about volunteerism in the non-profit sector, the Volunteer Coordinator will support volunteer involvement in national and community-based events, including the annual Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day and the MEGABike for Breast Cancer, as well as research, education, and awareness initiatives including PROgress Tracker. 

 

•       Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement: Not less than 35% and up to 45%

•       Event Support & Coordination: Not less than 25% and up to 35%

•       Volunteer Recognition & Retention: Not less than 15% and up to 25%

•       Data Management & Reporting: Not less than 5% and up to 10%

•       Special projects (i.e., Training, Workflows, etc.): Could be 0% or up to 5%

 

Position Requirements and Experience:

 

These experiences and competencies are identified as the minimums required for success in this position.

 

  1. Education and Designation Requirements

a)     Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Volunteer Management, Non-Profit Management, Human Resources, or a related field is required.

b)     Continuing education and professional development in relevant streams are considered an asset.

c)     Trained in the practical and advanced use of applicable software or related technological tools is considered an asset (Raiser’s Edge NXT, VolunteerHub, etc.).

 

2.     Experience Requirement:

 

a)     2+ years of experience in volunteer coordination, preferably in a non-profit environment.

b)     Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple volunteer initiatives simultaneously.

c)     Advanced planning skills with proven success working remotely displaying strong organizational, time management and project management skills.

d)     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for working with diverse communities.

e)     Experienced with volunteer management software and CRM systems (e.g., Volunteer Hub, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar tools)

f)      Displays commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes in a results-oriented culture.

g)     Well-developed critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution abilities; able to think quickly, identify resources, and make well informed fact-based decisions.

h)     Demonstrated ability to build and maintain healthy and professional relationships with co-workers, volunteers, industry supporters as well as research participants and their caregivers.

 

3.    Core Competencies and Personal Attributes:

 

a)     Ability to think strategically and execute operationally while being able to pivot between priorities and specializations in a fast-paced small organizational environment.

b)     Diplomatic, able to leave ego at the door and tactfully, respectfully, and collaboratively work with a wide variety of people, altering style appropriate to the environment.

c)     Confident and mature with a professional presence and strong emotional intelligence, able to lead unpaid volunteers ensuring relationships are built on a solid foundation.

d)     Effectively prioritizes, manages tasks and leads projects within scope of authority and escalates appropriately.

e)     Proven ability to work remotely while maintaining professional communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate business intelligence.

f)      Positive and passionate attitude towards BCC values and expected achievements.

g)     Tolerant and resilient, with an internal compass always pointed towards integrity.

h)     Ability to speak multiple languages is considered an asset.

 

 

4.    Working Conditions:

 

a)     Ability to succeed in a virtual work environment (since 2015), a T2200 is provided.

b)     Varying work hours is required; the nature of the work is such that evening and some weekend work is required.

c)     Travel Requirements which are frequent and recurring:

a.     Local/regional travel requiring a valid driver’s licence and clean drivers abstract with insurance.

b.     Long distance travel within Canada, requiring independent air or other modes of transportation.

 

Critical Business Objectives and Key Performance Indicators:

 

1.    Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement | Objectives and KPIs

Lead initiatives that result in a large and diverse team of volunteers who display passion and dedication to BCC.  

a)      Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for national and community-based initiatives.

b)      Develop and distribute volunteer toolkits, ensuring volunteers have the necessary resources to support fundraising and awareness events.

c)      Foster relationships with volunteers, ensuring meaningful engagement and ongoing support.

d)      Promote volunteer opportunities through digital platforms, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives.

 

2.    Event Support & Coordination | Objectives and KPIs

Effectively support and guide volunteers towards successful event outcomes.

a)      Work with the events team to coordinate volunteer roles for national signature events, including the Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day and MEGABike for Breast Cancer.

b)      Assign volunteers to specific roles, ensuring a seamless event experience for all participants.

c)      Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, providing guidance and troubleshooting as needed.

 

3.    Volunteer Recognition & Retention | Objectives and KPIs

Cultivate meaningful recognition efforts which ensure a high retention rate of high contributing volunteers.

a)      Collaborate with other BCC team members to establish and/or improve volunteer appreciation initiatives, recognizing contributions through awards, special events, and communications.

b)      Develop and maintain a volunteer engagement calendar, ensuring regular touchpoints with volunteers.

c)      Collect feedback and continuously improve the volunteer experience based on insights and recommendations.

 

4.    Data Management & Reporting | Objectives and KPIs

Keep current and accurate records, able to factually tell a story about BCC volunteerism.

a)      Maintain an up-to-date volunteer database, tracking engagement, hours, and roles.

b)      Prepare reports on volunteer participation and impact, sharing insights with leadership.

c)      Ensure compliance with volunteer policies and organizational guidelines.

 

5.    Special Projects | Objectives and KPIs

a)      Other duties as may be required from time-to-time, including attendance at events, shows and educational trips as necessary.

b)      Supervise, lead and support other special projects, as tasked to do so.

c)      Special Projects were completed in agreed time periods and within budget.

5.       Personal performance meets expectation ratings in the Performance Standards Program reviews.

6.       To be capable of independent travel to, from and within designated regions with access to reliable transportation.

 

Salary: $50,000 to $60,000
