Program Coordinator, Shelter Competition #12-25

 

About Our Opportunity:

 

The program coordinator will support youth accessing the DYSC shelter to take steps towards addressing their essential needs. The program coordinator will complete a service plan with each youth which will include, and not be limited to, housing applications, referring to housing providers or programs, assistance in accessing income assistance, and exploring other benefits youth may be eligible for. The program coordinator will coordinate with community stakeholders to achieve appropriate care for youth who are at risk of homelessness.

What do you need to succeed?

 

Education, Training, Experience

•     Degree or diploma in social work or youth care/certificate in a related field

•     Minimum three years experience working with homeless and at-risk youth

•     Experience with adolescent development and issues involving sexually exploited youth, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, poverty and concurrent issues

•     Lived experience is considered an asset

•     Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT) Training is an asset

•     A combination of education/experience can be considered

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

•     Knowledge of and belief in the Harm Reduction model

•     Knowledge of substance misuse, adolescent development and the problems encountered by chemically dependant youth

•     Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention techniques

•     Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and other agencies and to maintain confidentiality

 

Additional Requirements

•     Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
