Job Summary:

The Counsellor works in our SAIP counselling for children/youth 4- 18 years old who have experienced sexual abuse, assault, or exploitation. This position provides intake, assessment, individual service plans, individual and group counselling, brief and ongoing sessions, and provides clients with information about other relevant services.  The Counsellor assists clients in addressing trauma and working toward identified goals. 

Your Role:

Archway’s Counsellor with the Montrose Wellness and Trauma Counselling Program contributes by:

•       Providing one-on-one counselling, in person or virtually, that may include psychoeducation, crisis support/referral, play therapy and other trauma counselling as is appropriate for the client(s).

•       Gathering information about the client, conducting assessments, and identifying areas of concern.

•       Developing interpretive summaries and consulting with each client to create individualized service plans.

•       Working collaboratively with caregivers and facilitating groups.

This position is a great fit for someone who has strong relationship building skills and ability to establish trust; has strong documentation skills and the ability to produce accurate and factual case notes, and has the ability to work effectively with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, assault, or exploitation.  

Our Offer

  • Wage:  $41.01 per hour.
  • A permanent, part-time position at 21.5 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • Master’s degree in counselling psychology or a related field. 
  • Eligible for registration with professional regulatory bodies such as the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
  • Experience working with children who have experienced trauma.
  • Training in play therapy and trauma counselling.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check. 

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and active listening skills; ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Strong relationship building skills; ability to build rapport, establish trust, and set appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong documentation skills; ability to produce accurate and factual case notes in a timely manner. 
  • Strong computer skills; able to use Microsoft Office365, and virtual meeting platforms including Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Ability to provide in-person service, and adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Flexible availability to work some early evenings (up to 6pm) to accommodate clients’ schedules.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employment.
