EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: Support Worker (Relief Outcomes Facilitator)

 

Addus is a charitable organization that enables people with developmental disabilities to actively participate in their community. Addus offers a flexible, supportive work environment with a well-developed team of professionals supporting more than 60 participants across Toronto in small group and one-to-one settings. Our programs include active day supports programs, job coaching, our creative arts-based programs Art+ Studio and Saturday Art Club, and our innovative social enterprise, Smashing Good Piñatas.

 

Addus is currently seeking out energetic professionals to provide relief support in our various programs. This role involves working directly with participants, supporting them to reach individual goals, connect with the community, and participate in social and recreational activities. Addus supports staff professional development and growth and welcomes opportunities for staff to contribute their talents and interests to our program activities. This position is a great fit for students, new graduates, or experienced professionals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support participants to develop goals, interests, and meaningful roles in the community.
  • Facilitate participation in community life and encourage independence according to participants’ interests.
  • Assist staff in implementing curriculum in a community-based day program setting. Examples include arts, physical activity, cooking, volunteering, etc.
  • Ensure a high standard of health and safety in the program environment and the community.
  • Demonstrate respect for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, friends, volunteers and community supports.
  • Build professional relationships with program participants, families, staff, and community members.

 

Qualifications and Assets:

  • Flexible
  • A self-motivated team player
  • Good knowledge of community resources
  • Strong understanding of community inclusion and the importance of meaningful social roles for participants
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Related post-secondary education an asset
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR an asset*
  • CPI certification an asset*
  • Experience and interest in the arts (e.g. visual art, sculpture, film, etc.) an asset

 

*Will be required. Addus will cover cost of approved training for successful candidate.
