JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Advisor supports the Human Resources Department in evaluating existing human resources processes for effectiveness and efficiency, developing functional recommendations for improvement and working directly with department coordinators and managers to successfully implement approved procedural changes. Monitors implemented changes providing feedback on performance and making recommendations for future direction as appropriate. The role is responsible for providing advice and clarification to managers, coordinators and employees regarding human resource policy and procedure. The position will also provide work guidance to other members of the human resources department and assume some duties of the Vice President of Human Resources in their absence.
EDUCATION/PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
• University degree in business administration or a related field with a focus on human resource management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CHRP designation an asset
• A minimum of three to five years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist role reflecting increased responsibility, some supervisory experience and independent project development. Experience gained in a community-based organization or unionized environment is beneficial
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
• Demonstrated ability to review human resource policy and procedure, providing recommendations to align with current best practice models
• Proven ability to take initiative and work with a minimal amount of supervision
• Ability to conduct research into human resource issues, preparing reports and providing feedback to senior management as required
• Able to establish strong working relationships with management, colleagues and clients, displaying excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability to a wide variety of situations and personality types
• Proven ability to communicate, both verbally and written, in an effective business manner across a broad range of stakeholders
• Able to effectively work in a stressful and constantly changing environment
• Ability to work and empathize with people who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, addictions issues or may be living with HIV/AIDS, other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions
• Organized and flexible self-starter who possesses strong analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Strong knowledge of current human resource management practices
• Good knowledge of provincial and federal legislation governing employer human resource practices
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, experience with a HRIS and/or other operating systems a benefit
