What You Will Do

Duties of an Event Technician: 

•       Set up, operate and strike AV equipment including projectors, sound systems, DMX lighting and video displays for events

•       Provide technical support for live performances, artist talks, panel discussions, rental events, galas, Art Party’s and similar events

•       Troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in real time

•       Collaborate with event coordinators and the AV event lead to achieve logistical and creative goals

 

Duties of an Exhibition Installer:

•       Install, configure and maintain AV equipment including projectors, sound systems, video displays and theatrical lighting

•       Manage cable runs including fishing cables through walls, ceilings and floors while ensuring minimal visual impact to the exhibition

•       Meticulous approach to cable labelling and documenting system configurations

•       Termination of various cables including: XLR, TRS, Cat and more

•       Configure and install local area networks for complex multimedia artwork from the collection or on loan to the Gallery

•       Account for voltage drop and circuit management to maintain consistent AV performance for the length of the exhibition

•       Collaborate closely with the lead AV installer, technical staff and curators to achieve creative goals

 

Additional General Duties:

•       Ensure health and safety protocols are followed whilst working at height, lifting heavy items, using power tools and managing cable runs

•       Support the Gallery’s overall goals towards a cohesive brand voice and identity  

 

This role contributes to the overall success of the Audio-Visual team and ensures contribution to the Gallery’s strategic goals.

 

What You Bring to the Role

As Audio-Visual Technician II, you have completed Grade 12 or equivalent. You also bring a minimum of 2 years’ experience. 

In addition, you have the following:

Essential Skills + Attributes:

•       In-depth technical knowledge of signal flow, sound mixing, lighting control and video distribution

•       Experience with temporary rigging of projectors, lighting and speakers

•       Experience working with the MS365 suite, project management software, Adobe Creative Suite, BA Connect and other software as required

•       Basic knowledge of networking

•       Strong ability to prioritize tasks effectively

•       Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work well under pressure

•       Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to follow complex and detailed instructions

•       Quick learner of software and hardware, with the ability to adapt

•       Strong communication and teamwork abilities

•       Proactive attitude towards learning new skills

•       Ability to lift 25kg

 

Desirable Qualifications:

•       Experience with simple scripting and automation for macOS and Windows systems

•       Experience with electronics repair and troubleshooting

•       Experience working with vintage AV equipment (e.g., 16mm film projectors, slide machines)

•       Experience with metal and wood fabrication

•       Scissor lift or WAV (Work Access Vehicle) license

 

COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Salary: Pay Grade 18: Step 1: $26.84 per hour.

 

Schedule: Casual Schedule 0-35 hours per week, working on a 7-day roster. Hours of work ranging between 7.30am and 12.00am. Must be committed to being available with minimal notice.

 

This is a unionized position. This assignment falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE Local 15 – VMECW. 

 

This is an in-office position at the Gallery’s downtown Vancouver location.
