The Role

Reporting to the Research Director, the Research Associate will support the Adaptation team in identifying and executing research projects to improve climate change adaptation policy in Canada, including conducting literature reviews, providing core data synthesis and analysis, writing content for Institute publications, collaborating with Mitigation, Sustainable Finance, Clean Growth, 440 Megatonnes and Indigenous research teams, contributing to research communications strategies and supporting stakeholder engagement. 

The Research Associate will join the Adaptation team at the Institute. Our adaptation research examines proactive adaptation policies that can make Canada more resilient and reduce the potential impacts of a changing climate to Canada’s society, environment, and economy. Successful adaptation requires governance and policy innovation in many fields, including public administration, financial systems, macroprudential frameworks, public health, land use planning, emergency response, and natural resource management. 

We are seeking candidates with an understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation and of the public policy development process, and an interest in applying this understanding to the development of policies across many areas to help Canada better plan for the future, manage risks, and build resilience.

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Economics, or other Social Sciences, Environmental or Climate Change Studies, Resource Management, or other field of study if combined with relevant policy research experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative research skills, including understanding of quantitative policy analysis and climate impact modeling, and interpretation of results.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in core policy research competencies including literature review, data synthesis, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, energy, and resource policy.
  • Strong project management skills, including juggling competing priorities with an agile and outcomes-oriented focus.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is a strong asset.   
  • Self-directed and able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
