Position Summary:

The Case Worker, Family Violence is part of the Community Safety and Well-Being division, providing direct support to individuals impacted by family violence. This role involves developing supportive, non-judgmental, and strength-based relationships while offering resources, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and assistance in overcoming barriers to a safe, violence-free life. Additionally, the Case Worker connects with the partners of individuals attending court-ordered family violence treatment. This includes assessing risk and needs, providing support, enhancing safety, and facilitating access to relevant treatment programs and resources.

Through these responsibilities, the Case Worker plays a critical role in promoting safety, well-being, and support for those affected by family violence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing services using a client centered, strength-based approach consistent with agency and program philosophy
  • Provide support for individuals to overcome barriers so they can live free from violence
  • Follow up with victims/partners of offender attending mandated treatment program
  • Assess for risk and needs and develop safety plans as required
  • Through SMART Goal planning, provide ongoing support, advocacy, and intervention as required to assist client in meeting their identified goals and needs
  • Provides referrals as appropriate
  • Regular case consultation with treatment team
  • Maintain positive, professional working relationship with colleagues, external agencies and partners
  • Participate in agency and community committees
  • Participate in core agency training and additional ongoing training opportunities as directed and approved
  • Maintain and monitor all file documentation as per program/agency policy
  • Maintain accurate and timely data collection, data entry and completion of any program assessments and surveys as per agency and program policy
  • Complete monthly agency employee requirements
  • Contribute to overall agency purpose

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor of Social Work degree (RSW preferred) or a related Human Services degree and related experience
  • Thorough understanding of family violence dynamics and barriers as well as addiction and mental health issues
  • Minimum 2 years’ front-line experience in delivery of family violence services
  • Experienced in risk assessment, safety planning and case management
  • Familiar with community resources including housing and financial resources, immigration, legal, child and family services
  • Professionalism within all aspects of employment and able to contribute to a positive team environment
  • Thorough understanding of victimization and the dynamics of domestic violence
  • Assessment, interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Excellent computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and video conferencing platforms)
  • Experience with client management database systems
  • Fluency in a language other than English would be an asset

Conditions of Employment:

  • Clear Criminal Record and Child Intervention Check; A criminal record will not disqualify you from employment with us; we evaluate each application individually 
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR
  • This position is a 1-year term with the possibility of extension.

  • This position has an immediate start date. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00AM – 4:30PM. 
  • The office is located in the Transition Place Building at #401, 10010-105 Street.
